Howdy! Im mostly a bay window guy, but secretly I always wanted a Ghia, and I always wanted a '69. So when I had the chance to jump on one cheaply, I did. It does have some rocker rust one one side, and lots and lots of dime sized holes in the pan, but over all is pretty solid. The guy I got it from bought it for the motor, and didnt want the body, so I was able to score it pretty cheap. It was several hours from me, but who doesnt like a VW road trip? Nobody, thats who. So I loaded up a friend, and hit the road. When I arrived, there she sat, waiting. With one eye, hopeful of a new home.
Shes definately rough, and the interior is completely shot out.
Further, shes had a nose job at some point, but it all seems to line up well, there isnt any seam rust, and only bondo in one spot I found.
Nonetheless, I wanted her, and I bought her.
Im super stoked. I've been reading the threads in here like crazy because this is all new to me. She will most likely get a narrowed beam and sprint stars, but I still have a lot of reading and research to do before that point. Any help or suggestions are welcome, and I promise to post tons of pics of my progress.

Thanks Dave! Does the body have to come off the pan for that? _________________ MAKE FORUMS GREAT AGAIN

Welcome to the madness!
Enjoy fixing it up but be very very very aware...... That rocker rust? Serious work!
Any surface rust on rockers = deep seated serious internal decay!
You do not see rocker rust on these cars until the inner sections are completely toast!
Count on doing full replacement on both sides (your photos show both sides are rotted very clearly)

Very true Dave but after all... they are only rockers, not the end of the world.
Kirk, your car is a beauty. Kiss her and tell her she will be good as new soon. Grats on the buy. _________________ -Jared

Nice find. Good luck on your project. Removing the body makes your rocker repair easier, and the pan work as well.
I should have a nice pair of rockers off a '69 coming up for sale soon if you want to use OG materials. Keep a look out! |
