20 years of buses, I never knew about these springs until I found them on the Wolfsburg West site. Ordered them, got them, and then could not figure how to install them.

Then I found this thread. I installed them on a bus I'm rebuilding and then when I went to install them on my single cab found that the springs on both the treasure chest and decklid were both popped out of functional position but still hanging on the tang. Put both back into proper position and BOOM OG springs working great now. Very happy, thank you samba people

Yes, it looks like you have a mid-64 down prop rod decklid on a Bus that needs a spring decklid.

Spring decklid bracket is very close to the decklid corner:

This black spring?

I think that is just black plating, not paint.

It looks like it does have some overspray on it though - maybe they painted the Bus with that spring installed?

My Sealing Wax Red Truck is the same - I see red on the spring

Guys, looking for some advice concerning my engine lid. Unfortunately a garage door mishap pushed my engine lid closed while it was propped open.

Good news is there was no damage to the engine lid. But now the engine lid stay does not hold it as securely as it used to. I would like to adjust the mechanism so that the lid stays more securely.

What methods or techniques have you used to make the lid stay more securely open? I presume it might be slightly bending something or tweaking something.

Thanks in advance.

It looks ok in that photo.

Is it closing on you without releasing it or ?

Maybe the piece on the body that it sits on when open got bent?
I would remove the deck lid prop and take a look at how everything looks off the vehicle.
Is the entire decklid prop still straight?
The piece that goes up to the decklid with the bolt should be straight too and the bracket welded to the decklid should be at a 90-degree angle - sometimes that gets bent.
This bracket, as seen on my Bus

(It's a little bit tweaked)

Everett,

Thank you very much for your response.

The decklid after being struck by the closing garage door, now when propped up will release to close at the slightest of touch.

Want to try to get the lid to hold more securely when in the upright position.

Will follow your advice!

Everett,

Followed your advice and took off the lid arm. Bent it in a couple of places & now it holds the lid fine.

Really appreciate all that you do for the VW community!!!!

Yeh, everyone has the repro springs and the props now. Here's WW's links:

Any feedback on the quality of the reproduction decklid/treasure chest door props by WW?

Do they fit and work as well as original?
