Was able to purchase a 1970 Type 1, one owner car. Bought from the factory in Wolfsburg, then parked in 1988.
The car is full of rat turds, passenger side floor pan rusted, engine rusted tight. No apparent rust other than surface on the balance of the car. Everything is full of acorns and mouse nests....what a mess!!
I need advice on floor pan replacement. Anyone in the Eugene OR have experience in doing one?
Bruce

The door hinges are also rusted and will not open. I am now soaking with PB Blaster. Any idea where I could find a door pin removal tool?
Thanks
Bruce

I believe it is the Diamond Blue. The drivers door has a pretty large dent plus all the hinges are stuck solid so I have having quite a time trying to evaluate the pan conditon. Despite having very little rust except in the battery area the car is a real mess from sitting 26 years. None of the windows roll up and down and most everything that is supposed to move is rusted together. There is mouse urine all over the car causing surface rust in patches everywhere and the spiders.....lets not even talk about the webs in there. It looks like an episode from the Lord of the Rings! The heater channels have surface rust but no areas that don't feel solid. It is a bit overwhelming to look at as a whole, but I would really love to see this car back on the road.

Side on caution, use some good respritators when cleaning that mouse s### out hanta virus is some nasty stuff, U might as well take ALL upholstery stuff out, including seat material & burn it. Been there, 2 bugs, not mine ,like this, removed body to clean up. A press washer with strong colorox mix & plenty of it may get clean & stink out, washed several times & u cant get at all the places either. I replaced complete interior. Painted over every surface I could get to and when parked in the sun with windows up u could still smell mouse. I wont attempt another but others can 'do their thing' if they want. Jjust my 2cts.
