Thanks Crusher
Heading to Silver lake tomorrow. Then a couple days on 2 tracks in the Baldwin area. Already spent a few hours north of Muskegon on forest roads. You guys are so lucky to live in a state that allows this and has National forests.

Have fun. I'll be at work, .
Yeah I think Michigan could give Cali a run for their money if it only wasn't for winter 3/4ths of the year. The outdoor rec is the only thing that keeps me in this state. It sure isn't the politics, or the drivers, or the roads, or the grumpy angry people, or the lyme diseased ticks, or the damned evil klompin' dancers!!!.... _________________ Brian H.

Hahahaha, klompin' dancers. Man, I avoid Tulip Time (stem fest) like the plague dispite being Dutch. I don't know why we call it "traditional Dutch dancing" when we invented the dang thing less than a hundred years ago.
Who is all going to the 131 Bug Run on Sunday, July 19? I'll be there! _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

I'm glad you asked because I've been meaning to check out the date. I've been saying I'd like to build a few roof racks to bring and try to sell there, but it's been one distraction after another this year so far. I'd like to go, but if I don't have any racks to sell that's prime camping season and I prolly won't make it. _________________ Brian H.

Heading to Silver Lake this weekend and was wondering if anyone can give a dune report.
I haven't been there in 10yrs, but I remember the entrance and exit roads were very soft. Last time I had 4wd, this time I'll be bring my bus. I've tested it in the pinelands here in NJ and it can make it thru soft sand if I carry some speed, but if I remember there's a speed limit in those areas.
Here's a pic of my bus. If I make it thru I'll most likely be hanging at the beach or sand drag _________________ 04 VR GTI- DD

Soft sand on the entrance road 2 weeks ago.
Be sure to air down to around 10-12 LBS.
If you want trails to ride PM me and Ill call with lots to try.
If nothing else stop at Cherry Point on the south side of town and get some turn-overs or coffee cake.

Looking forward to Silver Lake this weekend! My son is off to college next week so this is the last hoorah for us for a bit.
Last time up we had lousy weather. It poured rain which made for a sandrail full of real heavy sand. So much for the weight to horsepower ratio that already sucked, but add in a few hundred pounds of extra wet sand and it made for a rough weekend.
We made some improvements for this trip. Cutting brake so we might actually be able to turn, Webber 44, canvas body panels to try to keep out some sand, and some general tweaking and tuning. I hope it all comes together! |

It's warming up outside and making me itchy to get cranking on the project again. I untarpped my frame for the first time in a couple years this past weekend. Can't wait to start setting things up.
Any other Michiganders getting the projects out to work on? What are your spring updates? Any cool trips planned this summer? _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

I got some primer on our Baja this past weekend. First trip to the Dunes is May 6th, then two weekends a month until October.
Hope to meet up with some Samba MI members. I met DaveT when we swapped rear bumpers.

That is my neck of the woods. I will have to keep my eyes peeled for your ride. Just FYI Grayling is all jacked up these days. Detours and one lane bridges all over. Main bridge in town is out til end of July. _________________ 66 Baja

Alright, has anybody done any work on trying to push southern Michigan counties to open up sections of state land for Off Road driving? I would love to see some state land areas open up seasonal roads or a dedicated trail or two for off road vehicles. _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295
