My radio quit working several weeks ago. Then it would come one for a minute or so now and then, usually after hitting a bump. I figured a loose wire somewhere.

I took the plastic protector off that covers the glove box and radio. Since I drive the bug all winter I had stuffed old sweat pants into the spaces around the radio.

When I pulled out the sweatpants chucks of mouse duff fell out. Also the pants had ragged holes. So a mouse had been living in my bug. But I didn't find any signs of nibbling on the wires.

Any suggestions what to do with the radio?

TIA,

Hahaha... Yeah...

Now your radio is vapor locking... Try cutting some late model vents in it... Laughing

Yeh, I don't think Fievel would fit inside the case but I'm wearing gloves anyway when I take it out. Do mice carry rabies? Or I could leave a mousetrap baited with cheese on the gas tank tonight.

Wear gloves and clean everything you can reach.

The top of the radio needs a stand off kit- or the old tennis ball trick.

But really, wear a breathing mask when cleaning up the mouse house.

While vacuuming mouse duff the radio started working. I found one wire that when the connection broke stopped all four speakers from working. Maybe I hooked something up wrong to begin with because that seems odd. But regardless, with lots of electrician tape the radio works again and all signs of mouse co-habitation have been removed.

Mouse pee can be very corrosive. So if he lived in there and peed on top of your radio it may be effecting some of the internals as well.

What kind of shape is your trunk seal in? In the old days I used to run around with all sorts of things stuffed in the trunk trying to keep the wind out in the winter time.

Latter I discovered how easy it was to replace the seal and how much of a difference it made. I have been kicking myself ever since for not replacing them earlier!
