What's the most aggressive tire I can get to fit on 16" wheels w/o getting out the tin snips?

My Nokians are done. A bit sooner than I'd hoped for but one has torn belts. Low mileage but I told myself when I bought them that they were 5 yr tires. I guess that was just about dead-on.

I rarely do long trips, so the road noise doesn't bother me too much. But, I regularly drive in mud, wet grass, and rough fire roads. The all weather Nokians never let me down but I can't get them anymore. I'd buy MTRs tomorrow if I could fit them.

I have more power now too, so going big isn't an issue. I'd give up pep for a truck tire.

I am pretty happy with my Goodyear Duratrac purchase so far.

I am a Syncro 16 and the rub every now and again at 215/85 R16. I think that 215/75 R16 would be just fine.

Haven't driven on them yet. Going to put on my big break kit this weekend and get an alignment next week before I really test them out

Whoa, those are a new one I have not seen. That's a full on mud tread. They'll suck on snow and ice but be fantastic offroad and especially in soft or muddy terrain. Cool beans.

Yo FunkyMonkeys: Not to hijack this thread but, I think I see a custom rear bumper. Can you show a pic? Those tires look like fun. Thanks

Those are aggressive tires for sure! Looks sweet.

I have ran these for about 17k miles. Snow, ice, rain, mud, rocks, rocks, rocks, did I say on ROCKS? Great bite on muddy forest service roads and they do very well in deep snow. Very Happy

No issues, no cuts, and are wearing like IRON. I have rotated them (3)three times and have not seen the usual cupping that my BFG's always got.
Road noise, YES. Rolling Eyes

We do a lot of highway miles getting to destinations then it is off road tires for sure. So far, these have been the ticket to get us to some off the beaten path places. Wink

depends on your rims offset and choice of tire diameter, plus the van must be lifted

nothing larger than 225x75x16, (29.3") and afaik for that size you do need to modify the rear trailing arms by shaving and rewelding the seam. (or use lower than ET 30 offset rims, or spacers, to move the tire out) But no need to cut out the fenders.

If you stay in the 215x70x16 (28") size, you can fit whatever you like the tread on, with a lifted syncro and stock ET 30 rims, or spacers to get there, such as 10mm rear spacers with CLKs which are ET 37.

just has Old Man Emu shocks, the PO changed the springs but it seems like they are stock from what i can tell. The tires are just tall and make it look like its lifted

Be careful if you plan on doing some offroading with those tires. With weight shifted forward(going downhill) and turning people have had issues with the tires grabbing the forward edge or top of the wheel wells and wreaking havoc.

I could not run 225x75x16 (BFG, but same size) until I modified my rear trailing arm seams, shaving and rewelding.

My ride height is 21"

iirc a stock syncro ride height is 18.5"

my wheels are 7" wide, ET 37

Could you please post your info:

1. What is your ride height (center of wheel to bottom of fender)

2. what is your wheel width, and offset? (ET)

this will help others figure out what their syncro needs to clear a 225x75x16 tire.

I hope your tires dont rub especially when aired down, monitor the rear trailing arm seam at the inside corner of the tire tread block

thanks!

Great info!
That's the money shot right there
I would have needed a 15mm spacer to match your ET

Does opening your sliding door clear the tire ok?

The lower roller bearing carrier on the slider has three fasteners and if fanagled a bit will give a few more mms.

iirc Jim, you run a similar size tire
what is your ride height?
What would you say is the minimum ride height in front, to avoid contact with the fender, such as when turning into a driveway, downhill even, such that one front wheel is compressing?

to me the 18.5" ride height is a Red Flag. I would have hoped to see at least 20" ride height for a 225x75x16 tire.

Also, I have serious doubts about a stock motor working very well with that tire size, what are your thoughts?
