You can get a bolt-on sand-seal pulley that keeps the pulley from sucking sand up towards the crankshaft. The sand-seal pulley has a poly collar that rides around the pulley sleeve. You can sand-seal your dipstick with rubber o-rings, or wrapping the dipstick with string at the base. Good pre-filter and an outerwear will help keep sand out of your carb.

Have you never taken your dub to the beach? Boy, are you going to be in for a treat. I love putting around our local beaches in the buggies, finding 4 wheel drive trucks resting on the axles, and driving around them in 1st gear, idling. Very Happy

My bug's never hit the sand and I only live 1 1/2 hours from Pismo Beach. Sand sealing doesnt seem to be as much work as I thought, guess I'll be going to the dunes after all. Razz Should I worry about the suspension or anything else? Brakes maybe? well maybe not the brakes.

I've been wanting to go to the dunes to check out other bajas for quite some time now.

the sand seal and pulley are easy to install, don't forget to order the longer crank bolt because the stock one will be too short. i use a thick piece of foam around my oil dipstick.

I take my baja to Pismo. WASH IT THOROUGHLY AFTER!!!!!! I camped for the weekend and my door seized shut. That salty air and water will rust your car quick. As for sand sealing, if you dont have a remote oil filter, I would definitely have it done. The local engine guy said sand sealing corks up your motor and increases your crankcase pressure. when VW's build up too much crankcase PSI they puke oil out of every oriface. VW meant for PSI to be bypassed out the crank slinger. Thats why the stock crank pulley tin has a channel with a drip hole in it. I used the cheap bolt in sand seal and installed it wrong. The damn thing spun in my case. I sprung for a machine in sand seal this time around and all it's been smooth sailing since.
