|
|
I have my car completely disassembled to go to paint. Everything is out. just the shell bolted onto the pan. Including wiring and steering column. My question is when it comes time to reassemble the car is there a perfered order? Example: do not install windows before headliner. That's a given. But are there other similar situations I may come across?
Any experienced advise welcome. Thanks, Rich |

Wiper motor before anything else behind the dash.
Fenders, running boards, fender bead, all installed loose, then final tighten.
Bumpers, same deal, and don't scratch!
Carpet and upholstery goes in after headliner.
Have fun- this IS the fun part!

A real good idea is to invest in a roll or 2 of blue masking tape. I use it to protect painetd surfaces when installing things that can scratch - like window scrapers, inner door panels, etc.
Strong suggestion is to run a few extra wires from the front trunk to at least under the rear seat - a couple back to the engine is even better - use unique colors and just ties them off at each end. Makes adding gauges and such so much easier. Can be run down the passenger side if you want. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.

The previous suggestions are spot on. I would add, some foam packing material to wrap around bumper ends, a big work bench/ table to lay out your parts. Anti seize or lube for all the fasteners as you assemble. Get a piece of paper for making a list to check off as you go. Keep the pictures coming & have fun. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

And if you didn't do it before you painted it, tap/chase all your threads before reassembly so you don't snap the head off a bolt. Nothing will tighten your pucker string like drilling out a broken bolt on a freshly painted car |
