another user had photos w/tape measure sizing that he sent me. I had a friend generate PDF's that should be (almost - see note below) size appropriate with cut overlap marks

I have not created them yet but will report when I do. The PDFs seem to print out to scale. Keep in mind that these are tracings so you want to cut inside the lines.

The PDF's can't be loaded up here so you can find them here - http://www.andrewvanis.com/Vanagon/radiator_baffles/

note -
Andrew,

Please find attached six PDF files.

1, 2 and 4, 5 were created as full bleed 8.5x11 sheets.  Just print these out of Acrobat with no scaling or fit to page and match up the cut lines you will see around the mid point of the baffle.

3 and 6 were created for poster print if you choose to take that route.

Now, be aware that these are photos of someones sketches.  A camera lens will add some distortion to the image.  It would have been better if they were scans, but it is what it is.  I think it should get you close enough and then you can just do some test fits and fine tune from there.  Perhaps even make your first run out of cardboard and then trace the final fit cardboard on to the actual material.

Yes they are needed, especially if you have working AC.

Any advice on the hardware used to install the baffles? My originals are non existent, and I am changing the radiator this week and plan on adding the baffles I purchased from GW some time ago. Are they installed before mounting the rad or after?

Yes, and if you have AC, these help a lot.

I just installed mine after the rad was in and it went fine , I had to use the pics in the bentley to orient them right , my existing fasteners were still hanging on the van but the baffles were long gone.

IIRC correctly, the fasteners are a mix of screws and plastic push-pins. can anyone confirm/clarify? (and possibly provide pictures?)

I've got a set of gw baffles. Seem like low cost and high quality. I've chosen to purchase because other items are a better investment of my time to fab than these. Unfortunately I'm too dense to figure out how to install the side pieces with my new rad and oversized condenser.

Please post pictures of the side pieces installed and fastening points. I'm baffled. Oh my. I swear that wasn't planned. I really am baffled. Shit. I can't stop. Slap me.

Got a new version of the templates. These were scanned so no photo lens issues like in post above.

Full size PDF are at http://www.andrewvanis.com/Vanagon/radiator_baffles/

** The passenger side is the same but a mirror of these Side images but doesn’t have the hole

These are in 1/8 inch scale. Each dark line is 1 inch

PDFs are at - http://www.andrewvanis.com/Vanagon/radiator_baffles/

Print them with “scaling = none” in the printer dialogue box. They should print in actual scale. (put a ruler to it to confirm)

Cut a bit of the paper where they overlap, line up/overlap, and cut out.

Full size PDF are at http://www.andrewvanis.com/Vanagon/radiator_baffles/[/b]

cut mine on a laser cutter from the templates above. install was easy peasy. since I have a aftermarket condenser I'd leave off the front cutouts for next time.

Thank you so much. Very useful. Especially the DWGs.

I few years back I made a set by tracing onto an election sign (after the election).

During a recent election there was a local proposition whose signs were largely black. I grabbed one of those for my next set.

It's an old post, but maybe someone would know about it. Being on my way to print these templates and also looking around, i see in websites that sell some kind of T3 radiator baffles , that they specify that the ones they sell will not fit on diesel models. So having a diesel model myself, i wonder what is the case with the templates. Do they fit only petrol, or will they fit diesel cars too?

Ok, just to report,
I cut the baffles from these templates and they fit my T3, which has a body from a petrol model. I made a couple of twists, but in general these templates where quite helpful. thanks vanis13 Smile

FYI - I also made the grille baffles as described here:

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=718659&highlight=grille+baffles

No idea if they were also on diesels but it seems likely.
