Anybody know if a 63 convertible had a wool headliner or vinyl? Just bought an amazing 63 original vert that at some point many years ago had the top replaced. My '57 vert had a wool headliner...but think that I had read years ago somewhere that the wool was replaced with vinyl in production year 1958. Your replies are welcome.

ALL Karmann convertibles starting during the 1963 model year went from cloth to off white perforated vinyl for the headliner.

Thanks Chucks for the info

I just edited it, should read 'ALL Karmann convertibles' apologies. I researched this for my '61. next question is what color should it be?

Now I've heard "special order" plenty- but not "special built."

I've also never seen a factory headliner past '62 with the mohair. We need some pictures of the car in question. There should be no reason why an original mohair liner in a vert would still be presentable. Even in hardtops they are stained and thinned (defurred).

They weren't mohair they were stretch wool. Mohair was not stretchy enough to use in a vert.

Strange how these posts can tend to go off in different directions...When I replaced the headliner in my '57 vert, it was done with fabric (I believe a wool) from WW. It was flexible, and looked fantastic. I believe that the wool headliner fabric coordinated in color with the convertible top. Thank you all for clarifying the vinyl/wool issue in my 63. My 64 has vinyl, and is correct. Bob

BFY back in 2000. They were 79.00 a set then! About as close to the real thing you can (could) get.

That's a great looking vert. How odd that I didn't notice it at the PHX bug-o-rama.

Who did the top?
