I have to say yes. I have two and they are my daily drivers. One syncro and one Caravelle Coach 112i Automatic. For the sunny days I have a motorcycle as well. _________________ 1991 VW Multivan syncro 1,9 TD |

Our Westy has been my DD since I dumped a boatload of cash into it with an engine conversion, tranny rebuild, new tires, etc. etc. in 2011. The wife said I had BETTER use it if I put all that $$ into it!
So, DD it has been for probably 95% of my time most of the year. In winter when weather is bad or really cold, I drive our Tundra. Wish I had something with better mileage but at this point this is what we have.
I agree that the van does better when driven regularly ~ stays tight and runs right, and minor things get attention right away.
Since I've replaced about all the moving parts, my main concern is wearing out the old wiring and having some major issues come up just through continued use of a 30 year old vehicle...
(I DO wish I could just pick up a tin top syncro and slap a 1.8T into it though...!) _________________ 1990 Syncro 16" DoppleKabine 2.1 DJ 112i

Weekend car and camper.... nothing else... As for the daily driver, I put some miles on and have Toyota Camry with the 2.4 engine....
I get better mileage then my FIL with his Camry Hybird on long trips... If the van could that... well let's just sau it would be a no-brainer... _________________ Güdrun -1989 Westfalia - 2013 - 2018

When the sun shines and the road is free of salt, she's my commuter companion (25 miles one way) about 50% of the time. Otherwise, she's my weekend warrior for errands, camping, and drives. My other ride is a GMC Sierra 4WD and the wife rides a Mercury Mariner hybrid. _________________ Skip

Stop by the shop, with both of them. We just built a 2.2 Subie, for a Westy, out of Florida. Can also take care of cooling issues, on the Vanagon. (We're approx. 1800 miles NE of your current location) Towing could be an issue... |
