Fever is over, no more 34/104 - whew! Just hacking up phlegm, lovely
Bought myself an early birthday present awhile back - a set of Recaro Ergomeds from Poland, needing complete refurbishment and addition of armrests. These babies are heated, vented, lumbar, power-adjustable, re-upholstered, and the center sections are perforated leather. Looking good, and shipping out now. Maybe I'll have them in a few months - about the same time I get the van on the road?
I sense front window tinting in my immediate future too!
I'm slightly nervous about width etc, not so worried about height of seat base since I'll remove my drivers swivel to accomodate. Who knows, maybe they won't be a good figment...
Once the van is back in my grubby hands (maybe tomorrow), it is speaker shopping time! I've already got a JL Audio XD700/5 5-channel amp _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI

I'm liking the fuse-box addition, whereby additional relays and fuses are attached on to the top of the box professionally - sometimes these relay holders and such can be a bit fiddly to find, but they do make a difference for a clean install.

P.S.
All of this recent work is being done at Fine Tuning here in Seattle. Location is not convenient for me, but Chris has been very good to work with, keeps communication lines open, and has been straight-up on his findings thus far.
Folks at Mule were great to work with, but TDIs and engine stuff are not their thing, and were mainly trying to help me out over the Christmas holiday season as much as possible. _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

Did you get these off Ebay? I keep seeing Recaro seats I like being sold by someone in Poland who has the same looking images, but find it difficult to commit to the purchase since it's international. _________________ 1995 Eurovan Camper 5SPD

Yup, that's the path I took. I kept some part of the transaction on eBay so that I can leave positive/negative feedback on the seller - he has a good reputation, and basically buys up and refurbs Recaros. I tried looking stateside forever, but to find seats with armrests is brutally difficult, and if I was going to drop $2K on seats, i at least wanted heated/vented/power/etc. too, which I couldn't have gotten with bog-standard LXFs.
We shall see how the remainder of the transaction goes - shipping this week! _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

And Humpy came back! Shifting is great, although reverse is troublesome - time to install new ears. Engine pulling well although I probably went too big on the tires. VNT turbo plumbed in. Passat dash fully wired thanks to SyncroSport, Mule, and Fine Tuning.
Pics/bids to come this weekend, when I'm hopefully feeling better...
Anybody know how to adjust idle up about 200rpm? _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

I'll be putting in a switch so the ECU thinks the A/C is on (I have none). That might bump it up a little. There are also chip tuners who can do it. _________________ 1986 Canadian Syncro Westy TDI - 1989 Syncro Single Cab - 2001 Audi S4 - 1981 VW Caddy ABA - 1980 VW Caddy EV - 1973 VW T-181 |

Whats the reason for increasing it? Mine seems happy where it is. _________________ 16" syncro multivan pop top AHU TDI

Mine is idling around 500rpm, and rumbles/vibrates alot at that rate. I do have a Barometric Pressure Sensor related code, so will sort that out first and see if it changes idle. _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

And now for my birthday present! Unfortunately, my GoWesty sliders have the wrong size bolts, so I can't quite install these yet...
Well packaged bundle from Poland (thank you Marek!), complete with four day shipping as a birthday gift from the seller!!!
On the road to assembly:
Fully assembled:
And the pair:
I might've made a mistake by not having the very front of these be solid instead of perforated leather? Time will tell, and if I'm noticing wear I'll seat-cover these. These models have heat, ventilation, power adjustable height, lumbar, and adjustable thigh extensions. Will be interesting to see fit in the van this weekend. _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI

So, because my setup was a total mongrel (AFN engine and ECU mated to an AHU style K03 turbo, probably because somebody didn't want to muck with the mounts), it looks like I have an AHU style N75 valve installed:
However, I've switched to a VNT17/22, and now have an AFN style N75 valve available:
The electrical connector is a "match" - ie. the plug fits. Not sure about polarity though?
Issue now is hose routing / connections.
What is this jobby just hanging off the bottom of the old AHU style N75?
The line going to the top comes off of a t-junction from a hose near the front (rear?) of the engine:
I'm thinking:
a) AHU top vertical = vacuum = AFN top
b) AHU hanging jobby = air = AFN bottom
c) AHU top right horizontal = turbo = AFN middle
My EGR is blocked off, so that hopefully simplifies things somewhat?
What's the worst that can happen if i just hook this stuff up and try it? _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

here is a good diagram of the hose route, shows where the N75 connections go, just ignore the other bits
