|
|
Hello
I usually look for mechanical parts in the beetle section of the ads, as the Ghia and Bug share a lot of the same mechanicals. The Beetle section gets a lot more traffic and items.
My question is; are Beetle heater hoses the same as Ghias - here is a picture from a beetle ad just for reference - these are actually too early for my 1970-71:
If anyone has a pair, PM me.
Thanks. |

Yes, they are interchangeable among like years. According to the KGPR website, the part number has a 111 prefix, which indicates a beetle part. _________________ 1966 Karmann-Ghia convertible |

Yeah -- the ones on my 71 still had the factory clamp on them and the looked just like that. The ones on my 69 were a metal tube with a snap on jacket that looked like asbestos so you wouldn't want to use the earlier style even if you could find it . . . |

That is good to know! Thank you.
One more question - does anyone know if the heater cables are the same length for a Beetle and a Ghia?
Being from FL and SoCal - heating was never an issue, hence my ignorance. |

You know it's funny, but the accordion tubes on my ghia (69) were definitely longer than beetle ones. I know this as I'd kept a set of NOS bug ones to one side but when I came to fit them they were too short by a couple of inches. I settled for removing the asbestos rings from the long ones and re-using them with later rubber seals. I'm pretty certain the tubes even had a part number that started 141 which would indicate they were indeed unique to the Ghia? |

ckc is probably right -- looks can be deceiving.
If the repros are too short send me a pm -- I have a set that came from a ghia.
(which are nice but in full disclosure the will need lots of cleaning and the asbestos ring was flaking which is why I never used them)
I've never replaced the heater cable but it has its own # so . . . |

I wonder if that is because in 1969, the Ghias were made with IRS. Perhaps it made a length difference between the Ghia and Bug... |

I just recently replaced the heater hoses on our 1970 irs. The lengths changed several times over the years but ours were 43cm on the right, 37 on the left. The 43 is very tight to get in, the 37 a bit of a stretch but I was assured they are the correct length for the year and once on they're ok. The repro tubes also have a smaller diameter end than the originals so won't fit the seals |
