A clear example of why you don't want to use foam insulation behind panels.
Seriously doubt there's anything worth saving. _________________ Currently:

How much is a good 15 worth?
I know of sports cars that were completely rebuilt around a VIN plate.

This guy may not be worth saving today but I guarantee in another few years people will be begging for a van like this to restore. Look at some of the formerly worthless crap that the split window guys are restoring these days. _________________ '88 SCA High/Pop-top Syncro camper

Yes, using foam or other in places where water/humidity cannot dry is the worst you can to to a van.
Also the original shit in a westy behind the kitchen should be removed as soon as possible.

Any one of the 2138 original syncro 16 models are worth saving. And as Danbar says, in a few years we will regret it if this went to the crusher. _________________ 1991 VW Multivan syncro 1,9 TD |

A distinction should be made between open-cell foam and closed-cell foam. There are spray forms of both. Open-cell foam will soak up moisture and rust out a van in a hurry. Closed-cell foam will act as a moisture barrier and prevent panels from rusting if it is sprayed directly onto the panel. Both closed and open cell foam sheets or panels if installed in a manner that does not include a completely air-tight seal from the air in the interior of the vehicle will allow warm moist air to get behind the foam where the air will cool and the moisture will condense into liquid where it will rust the panel. |

seems like an over reaction to me to say this was due to foam, there are wide open panels, beams etc that are rusted right through, this thing looks like it has been sitting in a field for years and years, every last thing is rusted. |

Also looks like a lot of less-than-effective rust prevention measures at some point in the past, as well as a suspect window project... _________________ 1984 Westy, base model, 2WD. Plus some goodies.

That's about on par with my Tristar when I first got it. Not nice but salvageable.
There was a Syncro 16 Doka within the UK which was for sale quite cheaply but was worse than this van.
It was bought by one of the local Syncro crowd, stripped of most parts (I don't he knew exactly what he was doing) and then crushed.
Shame really as the majority of T3s are savable, especially a Syncro 16 Doka.
Oh, I did offer to buy the bodyshell from him in return for the Syncro specific parts (plus £ or expertise) that he was going to cut off and even offered to collect the van and strip the parts off for him to make it a better deal but he wasn't interested.
