Tcash - gotta hand it to you. When you first started doing all these posts with photos etc I asked myself - gee how long I wonder will this last, and how thorough will these be? How accurate will they be?

Well - the work you have done - photos, quotes on subjects, putting it together in one place is really a good thing and I would like to commend you for the time you take to help others here. I seriously doubt there is another forum, of any kind, in the world that has more detail than the Bay forum.

This thread with the bumpers is excellent.

Didn't know that baywindows had a deco strip option, didn't know about fog light punch outs for ambulances, never saw a comparing photo of 1972 bumper to early bumper, and I didn't know about the late bay bumper strip, nor about the different hardware spacing on early baywindow bumpers.

The gravel guard notes escaped me. My 1968 and 1970 baywindows are not so equipped, my 1973 has it, but my 1977 did not...but I cannot say the 1977 was simply missing.

I don't know how many details or variations you wish to include, but the bumpers on my 1975 single cab are a bit different. They have mounting holes for fog lights, for one. I could take photos and post them here if there is interest.

Also, on my 1978 double cab, the bumper mounts in the rear have three mounting holes, to accommodate the original Euro hitch.

I do not believe this pickup ever had a hitch, but it could have perhaps. But, even so, did VW ever have a hitch that attached to the bumper this way?

Besides comparing different bumper measurements and characteristics, were the bumpers not date stamped? VW seemed to date stamp most parts. My 58 beetle bumper blade is stamped in the middle. I can't seem to find the same stamp on my bus bumpers, but then they are fairly scuffed up and rusty.

I was wondering, does the original bumper trim have imprinted vw spare part numbers and vw logo? Or are there any obvious differences between f.ex. original 70-72 trim and repro trim?
