How can you distinguish front and rear original or aftermarket bumpers on low light buses? Are there any markings on the original? |

I’m putting back together my 77 rear bumper and I’m only seeing two square holes per side for the carriage bolts but the description on the pics here say three hole.
On the top of the bumper I only have one carriage bolt hole per side and no other holes. On the bottom I also only have one carriage bolt hole per side but I also have two larger holes per side (one slightly larger than the other) and I have no idea what those holes are for. In the middle of the bumper I have three smaller holes which I assume are for the gravel guard.
So my question is: is the bumper bracket supposed to be attached via three carriage bolts? What are the other two bolt holes for? _________________ 77 westy 2.0 FI

Restoring a 72 and a couple of questions.
1. What is the (spacer?) part GG on the very first diagram of this thread?
2. My rear bumper has 4 holes evenly spaced on the bottom of the straight section of the bumper. No idea what these are for - they look original rather than something added. Do not look like they have ever had any bolts in them (round holes, not carriage bolt holes).
Thanks for any insights. |

Hmmmm...., I've never noticed GG on anything I've had, although most bumpers got traumatized regularly and that looks like something an average body shop would lose shortly after it drove off the lot and got out into traffic.
I'll guess it's a plastic or metal spacer, like an extra fat washer, something to allow drainage between the splash pan tab and the bumper blade.
The holes on the bottom are for the gravel guard that's shown in the picture directly below the first pic on page one. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Not for Bay's, the truck only bumper is a split bus thing, Bay trucks use the same rear bumper as the bus models. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.
