Leading cargo door not fully open also suggests clunky door handles.

I think that this hand made bus used side doors made from one piece with the outside swage line panels added afterwards as you can not see them on the inside. The lip of the upper strengthener would also sit in the recess if they had of been there. _________________ Austrian Kohlruss Deluxe

Another thing that seems odd, if you look at the photos below, do the prototypes have a two piece door frame?
|
No, the front 'half' is the back edge of the quarter light _________________

Just making the connection that G and I could very well be the same Prototype.
Similar light colour, same trailing cargo door buffer (some do not have this), same beltline trim.

Going with Prototype D.
Check that roof-line*. Early Colombian.
*Welded using 3 pieces? More bulbous front and back than production. |
on this one, the front emblem was screwed from outside, very funny! |
sorry, wrong information. all prototypes had outside screwed vw emblems. _________________ GermanRestoKommando

Look "deck lid prop" on the left, very similar to the early Beetle Split Window-style "hood prop"

Previous F picture showed a two-tone bumper
Prototype bulkhead panel pleats continue to the floor
Cargo mat looks to be carpet, with edge trim?
So too, come to think of it, does the cab mat of B1 (p1):

My Richard Copping book says 8 Prototypes were built.
The first of these 8 Prototypes was built twice.
I'm currently thinking these 8 Prototypes were made up of:
>5 Panel Vans
>2 Kombis
>1 Standard _________________ -StockRocks- |

Richard Copping book shows the pic below:
"The inner of one Prototype or one of the very early Kombi".
Look: cargo door lower latch, cargo door strap, weird pop out window latch, rudimentary rear seats and...rear luggage mesh.

Not the same as the very early model
