I'll ask Bill about the bandanna next Saturday.
I'm not really much into the whole off road scene but checked out The web site via the link provided by Jon Slider. I was surprised to find out the he also resides here in GJ. He actually has a little get together taking place next weekend which I plan to attend.
He seems like a pretty cool guy and I lok forward to meeting him.
The class being organized sounds like fun and very informative unfortunately I probably won't be attending.

4x4BNB, do you live in the Seattle or Portland area? If you want to do some trails, we could go to Tillamook state forest with a small group of syncros and have some fun in the mud this winter or spring. Also this spring the new trails by my house at Yacolt Burn state forest will be open. I am looking forward to having a syncro GTG at my house with a day of wheeling.
Nice work getting this trip together. A bit out of my budget though. Consider attending syncro solstice this spring, it is a ton of fun.
Send me a pm if your interested in TSF. _________________ Syncronize it!

The WABDR was not too challenging (It was nice and scenic but mostly gravel road) until we went to the Gallagher Head Lake trail. TSF is more fun and close by. Lots of trails to explore and camping available. _________________ Syncronize it!

Still need some committed people for this......
If I don't get some "serious" interest soon I'll have to:
A) open it up to seven vans to bring the cost down :/
B) open it to other makes of vehicles
C) cancel it .....
Ideas? |

FWIW. Since our wives are not interested in attending this event, msewalson and I are going in 1 van and splitting the cost. We will have a fist fight at camp one evening to see who gets the coupon and swag Might be a good option for others that find the price tag to steep. Looking forward to getting out with some other Syncronauts and learning
● How to be more prepared (vehicle/personal) when going into the backcountry
● How to negotiate rough terrain
● How to do a quick field fix when something on your truck breaks
● How to pick a proper line and how to spot another driver
● Basic and advanced recovery techniques
● Suggestions for modifying your truck and much, much more.
Here, Bill tells me how high he wants me to jump
I will be getting a Gowesty Inclinometer before heading out with Bill for a week http://www.gowesty.com/ec_view_details.php?id=4098

Man, Tom that angle is pretty crazy. An inclinometer sounds ike a good idea if you are going to do that again. I've been tilted to the other side enough that it was hard to stay in the seat and my heart was pounding a mile a minute. More fun to be a spectator. Who's van you taking. I have an idea if this trip craps out due to cost.

We are actually thinking about taking Matts for the 1st half, then when we cross I-70 to get from the Grand Mesa to the Flat Tops, switching over to mine. PM me with your plan. _________________ Tom, Juanita, Iggy & Abbey the Dirty Desert Dogs

Even though a majority of the group wanted a small sized group (5). I'm going to enlarge the group to seven (7). The original group has more or else crumbled. This will bring the cost down to $1,000 a piece (if we in fact get 7).
If I can't get this to fly whithin the next couple of weeks, I'm just going to cancel it rather than invite different types of vehicles.
I understand that this isn't cheap, still. But, I've involved Superwinch and ARB in an attempt to lower the cost and help you get the equipment you may want and or need.
This started out as an idea to help us Syncro folks learn what these vans are really capable of doing....a class specific to our vans. A chance to gain more confidence in our abilities and our vehicle's abilities off road. I thought this was a unique opportunity to get quality instruction for our specific vans without being thrown in with jeeps, land rovers, and others.
So....c'mon folks....
I've always dreaded doing this type of thing specifically for this reason.... |

You know, I feel a bit bad about this situation as I know you have put some time and efforts into trying to make it happen. I know that I was partially committed when you first brought it up, but there are some events in my personal life that are happening right around that same time that are preventing me from making a firm commitment. I would LOVE to learn some recovery skills (among other things) from Burke, but the timing on this particular event is such that it makes it really, really difficult for me to make a decision one way or the other at this time.
I know that is not really offering up any new information to you, but I want you to know that I appreciate your efforts. I hope that you get enough commitments for the event this year, but if not, maybe try again for next year. It seems like a great opportunity for Syncro owners and I would hate to see it just fade into the wind. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)
