I replaced my water pump on my 1.9. On my old pump I saw this. My new pump was bolted up already when I saw this so I could not check it.

The blind threaded hole, for the front thermostat bolt, broke through into the main pump cavity.
So that means that the coolant pressure gets to the bolt threads.
Also the said bolt length is on the long side on mine. Close to bottoming out in this "blind" hole.
The rear bolt is a through hole.

Just something to check and be aware of.

must be pretty common, i was in the junk yard yesterday, removing a 1.9 T stat housing, it suffered from the same, the bolt was wet, it's easy enough to check, and cut the end off of the bolt if need be
