I'm hearing a rear end creaking noise, especially on acceleration, but also other times. Have new shocks, cv boots good. Could it be rear wheel bearings need to be repacked. Can't remember last time they were done

Does it do it when parked and a couple people jump into the side door or rear hatch depressing the suspension? Torsion housing bushings creak when old and worn.

No it doesn't...it's almost a weird gurgling sound when accelerating and sometimes turning corners.

After vetting the issue to the fine folks here and other fine venues. The over all peanut gallery consensus that only the internet can provide was varied. There are only a few things to look at - the wheel bearing or the cv joint. But you get all kinds of theories thrown about from the transmission drive shaft to some corny ass racoon/aluminum hat/grassy knoll stuff Laughing But we have fun, right?

In my case it was the wheel bearing. It was shot. Most people had wanted me to do the CV's. I've had bad wheel bearings on my notchbacks plenty. So went for that first.

So that was my answer. It may be yours too? That is until you find a bad CV or a Racoon in your spare wheel well Wink Laughing

Raise your ass end. Grab each rear wheel and shake. Feel any movement? If not, call the Python Cowboy.

My '79 bus once had the same noise as in Notchboy's video. After blaming CV's, axle nut, etc. it turned out to be a wheel bearing. It really threw me though because I've had wheel bearings go out on other kinds of vehicles and they always produced a low roar at speed. I've never heard a wheel bearing make the "squick-squack" sound except on a bus.
