Great video...well done. Can't wait for the next installment. I thought only camper restos combined woodworking with busses!

Thanks. This is not the first bits of wood in my resto.

Now that I have a handle on the bamboo laminating, I may make the middle seat grab bars to match the wheel.

An old woodworkers trick is to place a couple pieces of wax paper between the pads of the clamps and the work piece so they are not all glued together when dry.

Good advice, I am using packing tape on the clamps right now. The epoxy seems not to stick to it at all. It may be a bit tougher than wax paper too.

The two halves of the Steering wheel have had the spoke epoxied into place and are ready to be grooved out for the metal hoop and carbon fibre fitment. So far so good, only one near disaster... The MDF board that the router thickness planer mounts to, met with some steam coming out our dryer vent, which warped it and I had planed the spokes into a lovely swooping non-flat surface. Luckily I had some tolerances and was able to fix the issue and re-plane them flat.

I have roughly trimmed some of the excess wood from the spoke flanges and thickness planed (levelled) the internal sides of the wheel halves.

Now I was struggling with how to go about cutting the groove in the wheel to fit the metal and carbon fibre. My router table idea had some draw backs, so I came up with a different plan. I will use the thickness planer and mount the wheel so it can be rotated. (those of you who are Skate pioneers...I took the bearings from from my 1976 skateboards "OJ" wheels for this) I will then solidly mount the router above the wheel so the groove can be cut uniformly into both halves.

That means that not only is your wood a perfect circle so is your metal.

Amen Gordo, been living by that method on most things my entire life. Still, I'll have to agree with Barry!

Thanks for the WatB turn on.

Thanks guys, it's not turning out too bad...not bad for doing it mostly by braille and how it sounds. Being blind in one eye I don't trust my vision, so I make loads of measurements. The touch tells more, but bamboo slivers really suck.

I got (for my Birthday) a Flat Four Banjo Wheel Hub adapter. Once the metal hoop is clamped in the Bamboo hoops I can then find the absolute centre of the wheel an mark out where to cut the hole for the Hub.
