|
|
Hey guys! I have been stuck between getting a splitty and a bay. both look nice, but I was wondering if there are any 1967 only parts! I know the interior is a one year thing for 1967, but it resembles the bay interior for the seating.
That being said, please give your advice and expertise to help with listing anything only 1967! |

Dash radio opening.
12 volt electrical system standard, with one year wiper motor and 9 prong blinker box. Dimmer switch in the turn signal switch.
Dual MC.
Gas door.
Latter half with back up lights with switch in transaxle nose cone.
Plus quite a few 1966-67 parts. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

More like harder to find and somewhat more expensive.
Wiper motor, so good to have one for a spare.
Till recently the MC was the big expense. Chinese made ones are out there now, but no long term reliability reports yet. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe the short middle seat is the only 67 interior item? |

No. A lot of '67s were built. Some people don't even consider them that old. |

Rubber dash knobs and interior rear view mirror for later 67s are one year only also. |

X2. They made 148k '67 buses.
Some parts may be harder to find. But all years have some hard to find bits.
Lots of 67 parts are easy to find.
The outside cargo door handle is one year only and not uncommonly broken. Only matters if you want a one key bus. Many have have an earlier cargo door handle as that fits fine.
Don't worry about it. |

A 68 bus likely has more one-year-only parts than a 67 bus does. _________________ nothing |

Making your choice between a Bay and a Split should not come down to how hard some parts are to get, or the cost of some of the parts. If you look into it almost every year of bus will have some part that is hard to find or rarer than others. If that is what you base your decisions on then you should be driving a mid '90s Honda accord.
The '67 is, in my opinion, the best and last of the splits. If you have a chance to own one and you pass it up for a Bay...you will always regret it. Yes there are some one year only stuff, but much of that only matters if you are going for a Concours award. It will drive the same and park the same no matter what middle seat you have.

+1 Get a bus and then worry about what parts you need. The more complete the better of course but that's not necessary unless you have the kind of cash to get everything you want from the get go.
Get one with as little rust as possible and go from there. Split or bay window both have their upsides. The bay will be cheaper, faster and safer ('73 and up), splits are simpler and have better looks (bays look cool too IMO). How much do you have to spend? _________________ "A rolling bus gathers no rust."

i have owned both a 66 westy and a 68 westy, both were great cars.
from the outside i like either one, however, on the inside, i do not like the bay dash, and i can not (absolutely not) deal with the sliding door thing. _________________ regards

I feel as if the sliding door is another complicated mechanism to go bad. |

i can tell you that my 64 would drop out of the track every once in a while, not so much fun getting it back in there by yourself, not to mention the thing about the surprise and the dings at the bottom of the sliding door from hitting the ground. Probably why they changed the design when they built the bays. _________________ regards
