Scroll down, and click the "payment" tab. Then, under "what costs will I pay in addition..."
From the site:
"The buyer’s premium amounts to 20% plus statutory VAT (23.8%) of the hammer price..."
Add 43.8% to the auction price? Am I reading that correctly? |

.......so 120,000 euros + 43%
=171,600 euros
= $220,000
Confirms previous post.
Auction house would not post sold on an unsold item. It may have sold post auction, but auction house would have taken their commission. _________________ 52 BD Deluxe

Wrong....The auction for the bus clearly states: "Special condition: only 10% buyer´s premium plus VAT."
120,000 + 10% = 132,000
132,000 + VAT = €163,416 (US$203,196) _________________ ( ⫏ ⫐ )

From the Kieft En Klok Facebook page regarding this bus:
"1955 samba sold for 190K at auctionata!!
Bidding during auction only went up to 120K, but in the days afterwards it was sold behind closed doors for 190K euro. That is I believe the new world record for a public samba sale, right? Buyer has to pay 10% premium, 1.5% tax etc. Do you want to sell your classic car, contact them directly at: auctionata.de , Next auction is in March 2015"

Auction bid was 120K Euro but it did not sell at that price, it was sold behind closed doors for 190K later but still through the auction because there is still a 10% premium involved?
This sounds strange, I wonder what occurred. _________________ How to Post Photos

auctions/auction houses are notorious for chaos.....its the only constant factor to an auction.....its like a big magic show complete with audience and illusion.....the variables are too great to use any auction including ebay as a guide, but i personally love that folks use any of it as a guide......but i love a little chaos too _________________ Have a great day! |

A bit of confusion but in the end the Bus brought all the money. Looking back it received a great deal of promotion and online exposure before the sale. |

Perhaps it had a reserve of around 200k Euro? It had a 120k Euro starting bid (and estimated value by the auction house of 240k Euro) but that 120k may not have been the seller's reserve. My guess it was a situation similar to Meecum's "the bid goes on" where the auction house continued to broker the deal. Likely only one person bid the opening 120k Euro and no other interest so rather than increase their own bid they negotiated for the bus after auction. The 10% "premium" looks like it was actually a discount - the normal buyer's premium was 20% for that auction.
Either way, 190k Euro + 11.5% fees & taxes = $262,694. Unreal. |

Thank you - this makes sense to me if this is how it was handled. _________________ How to Post Photos

In the CNN news article, it said:
The "sealing-wax red" and black microbus sold in this auction, by contrast, seems to have led a life meant for a Ferrari. With only 6,400 miles on its odometer, it was in excellent condition.
With a low mileage VW like that, a collector with deep pockets would definitely pay big bucks for that. _________________ 1966 Riviera camper Bus

It's not a low mileage vehicle.
I'm pretty sure the story is it had a replacement speedo during its recent resto.
And this speedo was set/reset to 0.
So 6400miles since the resto. _________________ -StockRocks- |

Correct, description was very misleading in my opinion. But I do hope the bus has found a good owner who wants to do it justice and above all drive it....If the new owner visits this forum I would be glad to give them info on the bus.

I think it's a lot more fun to drive a bus that's worth $10,000
The video says 1 of 11 VW samba barn doors. I can only assume they really mean 1 of 11 1955s? |

Yes, they'll mean one of eleven Jan Feb March 1955 Barndoor Deluxes
(although i just counted 12 listed within the Registry on Tonny's site)
I've heard it said that some of the coolest of cats have one of these.
Wondering whether Dougie or Everett have heard similar rumours?

you guys are right! It sold for 190k € after the auction was closed, and yes Simon it goes to one of the best pair of hands it could go to! I would be happy to put you in touch with the new owner when the sea is a little more calm! Cheers, Walter _________________ Walter Jelinek

for the moment I can say that one of my nicest customers will take delivery soon! he is a genuine nice guy and has had a few very remarkable cars for years. he is unknown to the scene! the cool thing is that the bus won't disappear in a collection. he is driving them occassionally and also allows us to use and display them if we need! it was never planned that he'd buy it. I visited him on monday and he followed a phone conversation I had with a friend about the auuction. that got him interessted....! the rest is history! _________________ Walter Jelinek

I just went through the threat and want to clear some things as they are wrong and misscommunicated.
First the Bus did not sell during the auction as it did not meet the reserve. It was sold 5 days afterwards with the help of Walter from the Bug-Box.
It is not one of 11 from 1955. That was a wrong translation from CNN. It is one of 11 remaining from 1955. In total it is one of 117 remaining to my knowledge.
The Suitcases and goodies we put together with the seller to make it a complete package.
The Number Plates are a ReStamp. It is the Numberplate the first Owner ( a Woman in the Austrian mountains ) had on the Car.
If anyone has further questions PM me
