|
|
The very early 1964 Convertible Beetle (9/63) I bought for my wife many years ago came with the VW Car Care Kit I snapped pictures of. The car is very original including the confirmed factory engine, so I'm wondering if this might have come with it from new. I would appreciate information that any of you may know about this kit and wonder if anyone has any of the missing items so I can complete the kit for her Christmas or birthday gift. Thanks for looking!

Thank you for responding and providing confirmation! Any ideas where I might be able to find some if those original items? |

Unfortunately I cannot point you somewhere specific other than watching the classifieds here and eBay.
The 2 cans you do have, on the left in your photo, are the easiest to find and appear on eBay fairly frequently.
I had a Chromlin polish tube (no box) on the site for many months but it sold a little while ago. These pop up for sale every once in a while.
The little rag I am guessing is a little polishing cloth that you could purchase from a normal store.
The little bottle of paint under the rag you would want to find the correct color for your Beetle. I actually have a few, what color do you need?
I like that your kit has the dividers as they are missing from my kit.
Could you post clearer photos of what they say? _________________ How to Post Photos

I appreciate your suggestions! I'm happy to take more detailed pictures of the dividers when I get back to my shop. If you would be kind enough to post more detailed pictures of the original items you have and I'm missing, I'd like to use them for my search if possible. My car's original color is L398 Pacific Blue if you happen to have one. If not, including a picture of another example that would have come in this kit would be great. |

Love the VW Car Kit pcalbar!! My can of "Konservierungsmittel" has the metal lid, unlike the Bakelite, and Plastic lids of the later versions? _________________ 1958 Agave Beetle (0\_!_/0)

Thanks for joining our conversation and bringing a new variation to the table! Did your metal lid container come with your '58 or do you know when the change might have taken place? |

No it didn't come with my 58, I found it on e-bay earlier this year. I'm not sure on the change, there are no pics in the 58/59 Accessory Brochures, but in the 1960 Accessory Brochure, they have a Bakelite Cap, and then in 64 have the plastic flip style like yours? _________________ 1958 Agave Beetle (0\_!_/0)

Both of the kits above have the plastic caps and I feel confident saying those containers are original to the 2 kits.
I would assume the metal cap is earlier given that I have not seen very many of those.
From memory and the few cans I have myself, the red plastic cap seems to be the most common. _________________ How to Post Photos

It's great to see all of these kit pictures! Mine is obviously a bit beatup but I have most of it. It had some Prestone chrome polish and windshield washer fluid when I got it but has the polish and the other stuff. I recently found the VW windshield washer fluids, both a plastic bottle as well as a metal one. Still trying to find the upholstery cleaner and small touch up paint. Here's mine:
The divider is folded all weird on mine and I think is backwards? It's got the part numbers and/or descriptions of the various items. This is one of my favorite items! |
