When you have a moment, change your signature line. The St. Pete bus is a 67.
What are your plans for the interior? Front seats look awesome. I see that you kept the access point for the jet engine. Are you going to put one of the start up units in it?

LOL! for sure, just changed the year. As for interior, i'm planning to continue with the full original interior platinum mesh. I have the panels and seats, just need to find time to 1st, finish the windows, then get to the panels, then the rear seats. No jet engine planned for now….
I have the roof liner, but I guess everyone says wait til it's HOT out to do it… I sold a reznor years ago, so 90 degrees in the garage won't happen til summer. What about around the windows…I have mesh fabric to cover around those "original deluxe" style. But the shop painted around the windows white and it looks pretty good. I'm wondering, should I go with the mesh (isn't it glued), or do I try the white paint first? I worry if I don't plan to finish the entire interior "correctly" this summer, then it will sit in a box for 10 years…. _________________ BreckSkier

Some updates to the interior build.. I put in all the windows.. that was a lot of work, more than expected… Broke a couple pieces so pulled some off St. Nik. Once it was water tight i've moved on to the interior.. Here is progress.

Now I'm trying to finish up the brakes, so He'll be normal road ready… VW Bob helped me install a new Dual Master Cylinder, we bench bled it, all good. Installed and tried to pressure bleed the front drivers wheel cylinder first,,, and nothing.. they are coming up dry? Perplexed… MC still has a full reservoir. Any ideas? _________________ BreckSkier

Maybe the soft lines are swollen. Also sometimes the bleeders on wheel cylinders get full of gunk that won't come out. Might need to take it off and ream it out. _________________ 1971 Deluxe Sunroof Bay 1905 stroker, dual idf40's, 74mm Scat forged crank, engle 110 cam. Also check the brake pedal pushrod adjustment so there is proper endplay which allows the piston to complete the full stroke and uptake of fresh fluid.
If endplay is too tight, the piston won't return to the opening of the reservoir ports, which happens to be at the very return end of stroke. |

Update on the Brakes, interior panels, back seats, tune up, oil change, cleaning the windows & getting ready for some near home drives! It's fun times man!
I'll post some updated pictures soon. Curious, the safari window seals of course are too long & may need to be cut to fit. It that the recommended way? Or is there a better way to shrink them a little? _________________ BreckSkier

St Pete is finally truckin again. There are so many little "deluxe" details left to finish, but so glad to get him on the road again safe & having some fun.
Inaugural date night drive to the local brewery, look who parked next to me right after I pulled in,, must be VW love.
Lots of ice cream trips in the future..
And date nights
Really needed a good brake job & tune at the local shop, these guys are awesome!
So many little trim pieces, screws, and items to finish
From 2 weeks ago. Getting ready
Motor is tuned & purrs like a kitten.. Also installed Blazecut fire suppression.

Congrats on all the work to get that Bus healthy and back on the road. In that shot of the pop-out window latch, are those sheet metal screws or machine threaded metric screws? Should be the later. Nice on the "Blaze-Cut" system, I've bought two to install soon in two of my Splits, but just in case throw another Halon-style or dry chem portable extinguisher behind your driver seat as a back-up... Enjoy that old Bus!

Thanks Bulli. Yes, the last owner started using these, but I switched out for the correct screws, & I keep two extinguishers on board. I had small fires in my '83 911 & '59 DD... Best to be prepared. We drove it in the 4th parade. It was a big hit. _________________ BreckSkier

Need some help. The Bus has something minor making it stall & now hard to start? Fixed my battery issue before, Electrical current seems strong, but won't run smooth. Seems electrical: would it be my distributor, dist wires, or timing? It seems to run pretty well for a couple months then started stalling after warm, and now won't run without restarting every 20 seconds. Have to pump the fuel more too? Starter jet? IDK, any ideas before I dig in? _________________ BreckSkier

Figured out it was a hairline crack in the control module. Would hit a bump and pull the connections apart & stall. After a while they would align & it would run. _________________ BreckSkier
