It may have been colorized from a B&W original.
I found it on my PC, but I seem to remember it came off the Samba a while ago. |

When I worked at the VW factory in Wolfsburg in the early 1980's, internal company vehicles had either a V or Vx in the center positions of the lic. plate. VW must've blocked those letters from general registration; would imply "Vertrieb" (Sales/Distribution) or "Versuch" (test). This practice was probably already established in the late 1950's. As the press caught on to pre-production models wearing WOB plates are something special from the VW plant, sometimes the cars were registered out of another VW plant city such as in Braunschweig (Brunswick)- BS or Hanover (Hannover)- H.
