Type 3 were official vehicles for pacing the race car pack, and track support at the 1965 Bahamas Speed Weeks. Photos taken by Dave Friedman, from the Collections of The Henry Ford.

Here you go Rome - great find. I remember seeing the first one long ago as a shitty copy, but not these quality ones.

Thanks, Jason. What's the trick to showing the image? I usually just hover on the image, right click, select "copy image address", paste it into the response box, and add "Img" around the image address. I noticed that method did not work. I went back to right click on "properties" but there were hundreds of lines of "gobbledygook" code.
There are several other photos from the 1963 Speed Week that I want to post on one of the Beetle forums, so learning the posting method would be quite a help.
Did you notice on the shot of the three Type 3 leading the Formula Vees, that the frontmost/left car has a US-appearing license plate, and the other 2 are European/British (?) even though they are LHD? I wonder if the left car's plate is from New Jersey which was black characters on a beige background. That could imply it was a VW of America company car based at their HQ in Englewood Cliffs, NJ.
When I searched on Speed Week photos from that source, I only went through the first 11 pages with 50 images each, of over 150 pages. There may be more vintage photos with Type 3 farther down the page list. |

I had the same issue. But if you use the microsoft snipping tool, I was able to save them to the my computer then to the samba. _________________

Aha. OK; I actually did that "screen shot and save to PC" method for the Beetle photos a few years ago. Thanks. |

Is it just me or do the front bullets look weird, like they are smaller? |
Yes, they look like uber early bullets, like Karmann Ghias with a chrome bezel. _________________ I'd be UNSTOPPABLE if not for Law Enforcement and PHYSICS.

I presume the VWs are pace or other service cars, not race participants? |

^ ^ Yes, KTPhil; pace vehicle.
Here are 2 more shots of Squarebacks at that event, this time from the 1964 Speed Weeks. Both photos by Dave Friedman, part of The Collections of the Henry Ford. The '64 Speed Week car races were held in late Nov. thru early Dec. at the Oakes Course, part of the Nassau Sports Center southwest of Nassau on the island of New Providence in the Bahamas. Two-tone Squareback in background of the race car prep/reigstration area.
Another one with tailgate open in the harbor (Nassau?). |

Everett is correct, my "preference" is to place arrows at VWs in background. Sometimes the VWs are not easily spotted, so in my opinion the arrows help to draw attention to them for Samba viewers. For VWs in the foreground or if otherwise very obvious, I'll leave off the arrows. The abundance of arrows in the harbor shot is so that I can post them into the specific "old photos" threads of various models. The Kombi is in center foreground so that it's in direct view; no arrow needed. I'll admit that in that photo there are a lot of arrows.
"Convertible Type 34" in that shot? The one to the left of the Squareback? We're still 5 weeks from April 1. Surely you're not mistaking an early Triumph Spitfire roadster? |

The white car with the stripe looks to be parked in the trunk of the roaster behind the beetle. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |
