Nice! I like the rear defrost - havent seen one in a while |
I guess even when they were new owners were bastardizing them. That's an early with "S" model trim and the funky torpedo mirrors. |
Yeah, but it serves a purpose. You can't see crap with the stock mirrors and the vent windows open. |

I always like to check this out, so according to the CPI Inflation Calculator, $44.50 in 1961 has the same buying power as $375.69 today.
I wonder what a stock VW muffler cost at the time. _________________ 1965 Volkswagen 1500 Variant S

In German... Coverage of the 1966 Type 3 lineup at the Fastback's premier for the 1965 Frankfurt IAA (International Auto Show). VW spokesperson Herr Kavisch (sp.?) is Head of Sales. He explains that the new 1600 TL's Fastback body style was created based on customer demand, though it also benefits from a larger trunk (implied, compared to the Notchback) as well as increased rear seat headroom. Trunk now fits 2 cases of beer, which is "important to the Bavarians" . Herr von Heising from Customer Service mentions that with the 1600cc engine, its compression ratio was reduced to 7.7 so that it needs only regular gas instead of "super" (premium) which was needed on the 1500S. Said that premium fuel was not readily available in the Balkans which was inconvenient for customers when traveling. 0-62 mph (100 km/h) takes 20 seconds.

Note the two-toned S'back in background. I've mainly only seen white roofs on '64 or '65, not on '66 with the 4-lug wheels and disc brakes.
There are a few other manufacturers which have similar model coverage in the same courtyard, just search YouTube with "IAA 1965". |

Pimped out notch. Check out :
Passenger mirror, fog lights, whitewalls, rubber bumper guards and weird towel bumper bars. I remember back in the day, there was an older gentleman who drove a green sunroof squareback with towel bars, and the front bumper had a solid bar across like a split bus. _________________ I'd be UNSTOPPABLE if not for Law Enforcement and PHYSICS.
I recycle old cars and parts, other than when I rot, that's as Green as I am going to get.
Thanks to my Tesla driving neighbors, I feel more relaxed driving my SUBURBAN and old VW's.
