Rad. Looks like it has some upgrades with the steering wheel and headrests.

I've been known to do that to my own car from time to time. Wink

Amazing pics and fun to imagine the context when they were taken. Clearly shopping were photo opportunities! This notch is exactly the sort of car you'd like to find: known one-family history of dedicated ownership.
Anyone familiar with the story here? Curious because it's GB registered but sports yellow headlamps... usually those were used in France and Benelux countries.

EDIT: Just realized they're from the UK but probably living in one of the low countries... Wink

This location is in Braunschweig, Germany at the lion monument in the Castle Square (Burgplatz). The lion is regarded as the symbol of the city. Braunschweig is located slightly south of Wolfsburg. Wonderful city- I would go there every few weeks when I lived in Wolfsburg in the early 1980's.

Note also that the Fastback has the 10-hole wheel beauty rings normally associated with the '66/'67 Beetle that still had the 5-hole wheels. When the Fastback became available, it was a '66 model year with the 4-hole wheels and front disc brakes. Those 4-hole wheels came with the 8-hole beauty rings which you can clearly see in the shots above of the WOB (Wolfsburg) "flower" car. I wonder if the "lion" Fastback was an early factory press photo, and quickly adapted the Type 1 rings in case the proper ones were not available at moment?

Always shocking to see people open their windows at LCS when I was a kid. It was closed down in 1984. Can you imagine the liability in today's lawsuit-happy world?! Not so back in '70 when it opened.

The area was later home to the Irvine (later, Verizon) Amphitheater (saw Fleetwood Mac there once), and later still the location for the VW Classic Weekend.

It's now an apartment complex.

Explanation?
1) Typo on order from distributor; "Nein, I said einer, not eight, verdammt!"
2) Uschi Obermaier was seen driving a blue fastback the month before.
3) Space aliens.
4) First use of Photoshop prototype software on early digital mainframe computer.
5) Some government usage required blue cars.

I was think a fleet order. Maybe from a rental company? Either that, or someone at the dealership liked Blue Fastbacks. Wink

Maybe an answer to this in-depth, riveting question???

It is for sure. Why is the front bumper pointing down? I bet its never been removed from the car? Or maybe it has? Think

Standard VW bumpers are lower than the typical American barge's, so VW added the bumper guards ("ram protection") for USA models.

However, that means when the guards contact the other bumper, and since the guards are higher than the bracket centerline, the bumper often tilts back as it's hit, making it frown.

Think Perhaps. That's one theory and very plausible. Cool

Considering the location and activities perhaps it's been used as a pusher... Wink
