Poor thing has been sitting since we moved last year and I’m a wuss when it comes to working in the garage in the winter.

A big sheet of cardboard and a healthy dose of German porn will get you back in the game. I'll take some pics of my resurrected Westy today.

Thanks Rich! I'm getting the vaccine early ( thanks to my Meals on Wheels volunteer work) so I may be able attend . My Bus finally running well after endless minor issues ( defective oil cooler, bad Chinese alternator, misaligned garbagy "header muffler", defective points, miserable tires, leaking rear wheel cylinder, delaminating brake shoes). _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

I was just thinking about the 4CORE trip, which I have yet to make. My wife and I have been spending extended weekends during COVID exploring the back roads of northern New Mexico, and while we have been in a 4x4 Sprinter, many of these trips would be good candidates for VWs. The main problem from my perspective is still going to be COVID, but maybe things will get better, or maybe we can be smart enough to do things in a safe way. _________________ John

Depending on the weekend, there is a decent chance I'll be in Colorado around the same time... Perhaps I can join in again!
As far as Covid, when I participated a few years ago, everything was totally outdoors, which as far as I can see is overall very very low risk. And it would be pretty darn easy to keep socially distanced.
Also hopefully by that time the vaccines will be largely available so I like to believe we'll have put this largely behind us. _________________ Dave Cook

One thing to consider- if you have a breakdown that requires a tow, tow truck drivers will NOT take people with. You have to arrange your own ride or they will call the state patrol to collect you from the side of the road ( not sure how far they will take you. I got this info from the AAA site and confirmed by a tow truck driver. Social distance by a fire will be tough to maintain, maybe "X"'s marking 6 ft intervals? _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

After reading some of the reply’s to my post about the trip, it’s obvious that many people are concerned. I talked to the core group of guys who come on the trip and we’ve decided not to create a thread on the trip this year. If you are healthy and interested in coming please PM me and I will send you the details of the trip.
The trip will be held July 30th - Aug 1st. It will start behind Purgatory Ski Resort, go through Telluride and end in Ouray.
Many of us will be staying out and camping the whole week after the trip as we make our way from Ouray to South Fork for the Rhythms on the Rio Festival the following weekend.
If you’re interested, PM me for more details.

That seems like a good answer to me. I sure don't have the solutions to these crazy times. Sounds like a beautiful route to travel! _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Anyone know of a good windshield place along the front range to get the '71 a new one? _________________ In search of a Vanagon

I got my new windshield from a very interesting guy in Co. Springs, got the seal from BD and had a local guy install it. I’ll look for his name and number and PM you.

I had the same grunge on mine. I ordered 2 rocker repair panels from mid-America and sacrificed a 68 Beetle fender for the other patches. I use a cheapo "Molao" Chinese wire feed welder and HF crap grinder and OSPHO metal treatment. You CAN do it! Or bring it to me with a wad of cash and we will fix in a day ( just the metal work mind you). _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Thanks for the words of encouragement! And the window info.
I have an entry level Lincoln welder that I need to get better with so going to get some metal this weekend and see how it goes. _________________ In search of a Vanagon

I've had good luck with panels from Klassic Fab for early Bay Windows. Far better than the Klokkerholm panels. From my experience, you'll likely need the drivers side floor as well. It will need to come out in order to properly metal finish the weld above the rocker. The only ones I use are from VW classic parts.
Those are relatively common repairs, but in order to do them correctly it will take time and some careful/skilled welding and planishing. With the right approach, it can look like new. _________________ I've never met a Bus I didn't like.

Make no mistake, Mike K is correct on all accounts. I'm offering a "patch and go" solution to make the big holes go away. I would suggest taking a stab at it yourself, its a rewarding process. Please post pictures so we can cheer you on. Mike K came down and gave Jason and I tutorial for novices a few years back. I video-ed it and would be happy to share that if its OK with Mike? _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |
