Hi guts my 75 bay has discs on the front but i have now fitted 17inch wheels and the brakes look a little silly in the wheels. I was wondering if anyone knows of any bigger discs and calipers that i can fit to fill the wheel better. I dont want to spend thousands on a ready made kit. So was thinking what calipers i can use and maybe golf etc discs. If anyone has allready done this pics would be appreciated cheers |

Passat, A4, A6, A8 & Mercedes share the same bolt pattern & most of these applications use a tophat style rear rotor. Larger, sportier versions will have vented rotors also, youll just have to figure out what caliper you can use with those. The vanagon "guts" like to use the Girling 60 calipers. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

Please don't cheap out on brakes. I strongly do not recommend vintage vdubs kits. If you're doing it for looks, then yea do what Dan posted.
Best you can do is this:

Just paint your drums black and adjust them properly, call it a day and have a beer. |
Yeah my rear brakes are all good and yeah going to paint the drums. Just want bigger discs to fill the front wheels. Dont want porsche brakes. Someone must have fitted bigger brakes on the front of their bus |

Maybe just get your rotors cross drilled and you'll be fine. That setup doesn't look bad at all. _________________ Wash your hands

The springs havent sagged thats where iv lowered it and need them tyres to make wheels fit without rubbing as 8.5j on the rear and 8 j on the front |

Haha, sometimes this forum can be a real treat.
To actually answer your question, there are several companies that I have seen do some cool brake upgrades with larger rotors/ calipers, etc. VDub Engineering is known for retrofitting performance brakes to fit our old VWs; lots of porsche but other stuff as well. DubFab is another company I have seen add some much more updated brake set-ups to buses. Check out Type-E Motorsports as he sells kits that utilize standard modern parts available at local parts stores which dramatically improve the performance. Also OldSpeed and Wagenswest have great quality parts and are worth looking into.
Hope this helps. Keep enjoying your bus. |

How fast do you expect the top speed to be over British manhole covers and potholes loaded up with all your "sponsor's" product.
Make sure you carry a spare steelie for when you smash your rim.
I like the look though.. just have about 8 inches more to drop.. _________________ Ancient vehicles and vessels
