|
|
Hi all,
I'm in UK and looking to buy a Ghia from CA to leave and use on frequent visits.
Have been searching on here, not much for my budget,< $8k, a lot seem overpriced and in need of a lot of work.
Had some great help from some members offering help in viewing etc if I found one.
Came across this one today.
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/cto/4806728514.html
The owner has had it for 20 years and was saving it for his son who now doesn't want it.
Anyone have any views/recommendations on it.? Is it worth a view?
Is there anyone in the Covina area of LA that might have a quick look for me.
Thanks guys. |

Looks to be a '66, Not a '63. I'd inquire about that, and get the VIN, make sure the papers are alright on this one as a first step.
Aside from that, looks to be fairly solid rustwise, which as we all know is the big killer with these cars. _________________ Air does not freeze. Air does not boil.

Also not a low light. Other than that, good looking Ghia for 5,000. _________________ 1973 karmann ghia - current, not the last VW.

Many owners tell you what they think you want to hear. Hire someone to look at the car if you can't inspect it yourself. It will be money very well spent. |

Well he does say it after he says this is a 6-Volt car... maybe he thinks low light refers to illumination.. _________________ Air does not freeze. Air does not boil.

-Steering wheel/horn bar is '64 or '65 (though easily installed on a '63)
-Light and wiper switches to the left of the speedo = '66 only
-Heater knob in front of e-brake = thru and incl. '64
-Late blinkers and small engine bay battery tray depressions ~ Dec. '63 on
If the inner door panels have the round hole for the chrome release handle, then it's a '63. If the panels have a rectangular opening about the size of half a playing card, it's a '64 on.
If it's truly solid (engine bay side sections appear really good), it'd be a fair price. Rust repair drowns money very quickly on a Ghia. |

The whole body is likely from a 66 judging by that dash. If it's registered as a 63, then it could mean a pan swap. I'd ask the seller for the chassis VIN. _________________ Air does not freeze. Air does not boil.
