I have a few questions about seats. Are convertible seats different then coupe seats from the same year?

Would a 1970 Karmann Ghia coupe seats be the same type, size and style seat that would be found in a 1970 convertible from the same year?

How different are the Ghia's seats from year to year? Are 1970 to 1974 all the same front seats? Thanks.

This has been covered before, but I speak from personal experience that the rear seats are different widths.
The vert is narrower.
I have the front seats out of a '74 in my '69 vert and they slid right on and look great.

Coupe and Vert front seats in a particular year are the same. As mentioned back seats are different between coupes and verts. 69 to 74 front seats should interchange. Not sure about pre-1969. 73 and 74 verts had no back seat but they can be retrofitted from a 69 to 72.

Thanks, I own a 70 and 73 coupe, looking at purchasing a vert.

I always thought Ghia seats were the same for each model in the production year. Aren't Ghia seats wider than Beetle seats?

1969-74 model year ghia front seats are interchangeable between coupes and convertibles and use the same seat rail width, although original vinyl patterns varied by model year. 1968 and earlier ghias used a different front seat rail width.

Any year ghia coupe rear seat will fit any year ghia coupe, although different retaining clasps and straps were used. Likewise, any year ghia convertible rear seat will fit any year ghia convertible, although different retaining clasps and straps were used.

Since the VW Thing used the same pan as the Karmann Ghia, I would guess that Thing seats would also fit in the Ghia seat rails.
That might be an easy option for someone with a later model year Ghia that is looking for low back seats.

I don't know about that. Thing seats are likely too high to fit in a ghia, much like how beetle seats are raised approximately 6 inches off the pan, whereas ghia seats pretty much hug the pan.

Since I have both a Thing and Ghia I would have to take a look at the tracks. Even if they fit as Sactojesse says you will be sitting very high.

Well obviously I didn't think that whole concept out very carefully. Embarassed

Since none of you know me personally, I'll claim that this is the first time that something like that has happened. Wink
