This has been a long time coming, I have been a long time Samba stalker but for whatever reason never became a member, till now, long story short I have been fortunate to own 2 of some of the rarest tub buggies out there. One is a Minibug built in Livonia MI by Greene Motors, and this posting is dedicated to my Funhugger, this build took place about 19 years ago when I was a 20yo VW fiend. I hope you enjoy!!
I purchased this buggy at a swap meet while seeking out some parts for my minibug. It originally sat on a 1960 full length chassis
I am still new to this but as I get better I will post all picture of the build

Winter in Michigan why do I live here?
Got to work rippin an tearin. I knew I wanted a slammed street car from the beginning, this body wound up on my 73 beetle IRS pan
You can spot the Minibug in the pic above, as I stated I was and still am a vw fiend. Throughout this build you can play spot the VW/Porsche game. Looking back I had quite the collection for a punk kid

wiring was 100% custom I used a painless wiring fuse block, Bought a spool of every color available at Napa and went to town,
1776 motor pulled from the 1970 Westy that I lived out of for a time Yes I am a dirty Hippie deep down
needed a refresh and some new goodies

refreshed motor in foreground
Had to have a test drive... seat not bolted down and my buddy holding bare wires to the battery, good times for sure. fast and furious
regardless of white knuckle test drives I do believe in safety and made sure PPE was used
next up the interior
Porsche 914 seats and gauges were used as well as a full array of VDO gauges
notice the Custom detachable OH S#*$ bar probably more harmfull than helpfull
Dune Buggy dog , one of my best friends and Co-pilot (Freedom)
sporting her custom headgear
she loved to go for rides. Best dog ever and sadly missed, here she is in the MINIBUG
no its not a British buggy the photo scanned backwards
and now the thrilling conclusion
here is the first drive
this car was built in a matter of months about 20 year ago, when I was young and had more time than money "Single", I remember sleeping on a queen sized futon covered in grease surrounded by tech manuals and car parts!
The buggy was attacked by a raccoon that got in my barn that had a taste for Porsche seating. So this will be an upcoming restoration in the very near future as I will be selling her (coming to a Samba Classified Ad Near You) to fund my WESTY Resto meets Subaru drive train Mod currently in the works. Stay tuned
hope you enjoyed the show. how many Cars did you spot? I had a 66 912 in one of those pics how I wish I had her know
The End for now. |
