Hello All! I recently just purchased this 1964 Notchback 1500 S!
I found the car on craigslist in Long Island and jumped on it!

The car feels right at home with my 70 Squareback and my dads Oval window!

The car needed a few things done. The previous owner had cut a hole in the door to fix the rust and had also noticed the framehorn was in need of repair too before deciding to pass the car on to someone who can do the work.

So with my plan to pick up my 66 Fastback to bring home for more prep work to be done, I traded places at work with the notch to knock out some repairs.

After the rust repair on the door, the decision was made to do a quick blend as the car will just be a driver for the time being. Eventually the car will undertake a full restoration, but I had to do a "Used car lot" repair Confused for the time being. Nothing any better or worse than the prior restoration that was done.

The hood also had an ugly touchup spot I didnt like, as does many other parts of the car, but I feel the hood makes a good first impression, so I decided to blend that in, as well as both rockers were in primer.

I had some leftover L 87 Pearl white PPG JAU shopline single stage, and decided to use this PPG one choice blender.

Id say the blend is okay, you can tell by the bumpers and roof on my Squareback the L 87 I had mixed in 2014 doesnt match the L 87 that was sprayed the last time the car was restored, but I plan to wetsand and buff it to hopefully help hide it a little better, but hey its better than a hole!

The reason I didnt spray the whole bottom of the door was to test that blender product... If it really bothers me I can recoat the whole bottom of the door! Embarassed Rolling Eyes

Here I how I tackeled the frame horn. I cut the hole out, and made an oversized patch out of 20 Gauge steel. Like all weld repairs I do, weld through primer was applied to areas for future corrosion protection. The patch was tacked on, hammered into shape as I was welding and capped the hole with the over sized patch. I ended up cutting the patch in half, doing the first halve, and over lapping the second cap over the new good patch to hopefully provide some strength.

Weld, grind, repeat until I was certain the patch was burned in well and was strong.

The same process was repeated on a small hole on the other side and hit with some rattle can black for now.

Some other information is that the car is a late production, June of 64, making it a non pushbutton dash car. The car is however, to my knowledge, very original and accurate. It has been converted to 12v, has disk brakes up front with a dual circuit master cylinder, has new tires, though I may put a bigger tire on the rear, runs and drives well!

I hope to have it on the road soon! Just applied for some classic car insurance, and a trip to the DMV and we will be rolling!

No surprise that my friend Alex wastes no time cleaning up the rough edges. So happy for you, my friend.

You now have the trifecta!!

FYI, Bass on the rear reflectors it was imported from France. There should be a body tag under the front hood too. Nice find and way to go making the frame horn safe again

Looks good, and will be a nice addition to the family of type 3s at your home. Cool
I know how it goes, as at one time I had 2 Notch's, a Fastback, a T-34 Ghia, and a Squareback all at the same time. Needless to say, I had a yard full of cars and that gets expensive to insure (especially in my state). Shocked

I just bought your car's twin! A late '64 pull-knob L87 S. I just bought it 2 weeks ago today. Oddly, it has small bubbles in the paint at the same front corner of passenger door and will need the leading edge of the hood de-rusted or perhaps entirely replaced. Crazy the similarities. Smile
