What a bummer losing all the pictures in this build thread. It's nice to see a build make so much progress and pictures along the way for those of us that watch them as we work on our own cars. Maybe there is a way to upload them here and relink them? Probably a headache for sure though. |

Yeah, very annoying. I have all the pictures, but Unfortunately can't edit most of the posts, because they are too old. Maybe Everett can unlock it and I will replace all the pictures?? |

I either need to buy the clip or find my old one. According to the video, it hooks in the hole to the left of the fuse block and snaps on to the side of the fuse block. I can post a pick... (the correct way) once I do it. |

A pic would be great, trying to avoid the wood screw and washer that the PO used, but I don't think I have the hole or slot for the clip to clip into. _________________ If you can't join them, beat them! |

I decided to purchase all new glass for my car, with the exception of the pop-outs. Against my better judgement, I decided to try to install my windshield myself. Well, I broke it.
Of course, installing the chrome trim is one of the hardest part. As you can see, I had to use a generous amount of tape to hold it together while I pushed the trim into place. Once I started installing the window, I literally had 1 inch of rubber left to pull past the lip, and I would have made it. I think if I would have adjusted my technique a little, I could have installed it without breaking it. Oh well, I will let a pro install it next. I am just going to leave the cracked window in for now.
I also figured I would install the engine in the car. I was tired of tripping over it. Went it pretty well. I have to shorten the oil lines, tidy up the wiring more, and install the carbs, linkage, fuel lines, etc...

Little more work...
Almost done buttoning up the engine. I used wire loom wrap and some zip ties to tidy up the wiring.
I also installed the exhaust (A1 Sidewinder with pea shooter exits)
I just need to address my leaky drain plug and finish up the throttle cable and we should be good to run. We started on the floor first, so I know it runs.
I am starting to install the drivers door glass and rubber, as well as the Dynamat material.
Working on the drivers side first, so I installed one speaker pod as well. I did not take a picture of this, but I used high strength velcro strips to attach the speaker panels to the body of the car, and glued the carpet to the panels That way I can remove to get behind them, and I am not drilling screws into the fender wells.
More to come.... |

Working on the car every week! Hope to be finished by end of the year. Anyway, here is this week's progress:
This week I continued on with getting the interior put together. I continued gluing the carpet in place and fitted the stainless steel door sill covers.
I installed my new Odyssey battery with it's custom battery bracket. The PC 1200 is close to the original battery size, so it fits under the seat in the original position. I am going to attach rubber pond liner to the bottom of the seat springs to ensure that there are no unwanted sparks, should the springs come in contact with the terminals.
I installed the rear pop-out window on one side:
I decided that before I put the interior together, that I should replace the shift bushing. Mine was still good, but I didn't know how long it would last, so I replaced it. Never seen one that looks like this one.
I opted for a brass bushing that was a lifetime bushing. I ordered it with install kit, which was a clever use of PVC fittings, string, wire and a how to video on a thumb drive. The video gave a great way to pull the shift rod our using a modified PVC pipe.
One reinstalled, I finished up the carpet and installed my Club Sport CnC shifter and billet heater knob.
I grabbed a couple of the seats out of the attic and started to install them.
Almost done with the interior. Next up is to finish wiring (including stereo) and install the sunroof. |

Finally finished all the wiring and most of the interior work, including the headliner and ragtop install. I started the engine in the car for the first time. It still needs to be tuned, but it lives!!

Over the last couple weeks, besides getting it to run, I also installed, the ragtop, finished the headliner, put in the rear window, installed the blinds, added rubber to the seat bottom to protect against the battery shorting, and picked up a couple things at Pomona.
For the rear seat, I used pond liner to cover the metal springs. I was a little short with the first piece, so I added more.
The rear window went in pretty easy. Not as easy to break as the windshield.
My friend came over to help me with the rear glass and brought his newly finished Azure Blue '53. It is gorgeous! This was it's maiden voyage. (5 miles to my house).
After I installed the rear glass, I installed my blinds.
I was trying to read the French directions and thought it said "Place brackets 15cm from center (About 6in) but I soon realized that was wrong and it was 15cm from the sides.
At Pomona, I picked up this rack built by Foreign Concepts.
I also got one more BRM for a spare tire. I ordered another billet center cap, but got a call this morning saying they are currently out of stock. If anybody has one cap, I would be interested!
I currently have 135s up front, but I am thinking of getting 155/60 R15s for the front. I would like a little more of a footprint.
Otherwise, the car is getting close. I think I will be driving it around the new year!! |
