Finally got some decent weather to finish up some painting.

I repainted the fenders (Due to minor solvent pop) and the passenger side of the car (I sanded through the clear in a couple spots) I also painted the hood and deck lid and the last remaining little pieces. Unfortunately, the deck lid fell, so I will have to repair it and repaint. I will let the paint harden until next week, then I will color match bed liner the back sides of the fenders and color sand and buff everything.

I loosely placed some trim and the lights to see how it will look, I am happy with the results so far. It should look great once I sand out the orange peel.

Finally after 4 years of work, I will get to drive the car! Can't wait!

Looking good, I'm jealous, I wish I was at the same stage of the game as you. I may do the Weber windows too.

Thanks guys!
I recommend the Weber windows. Makes it way easier!

Finished spraying the color matched bed liner under the fenders and got the hood polished. Looks great with the trim installed. This is this morning as I left for work.

Been feverishly working to get her done. Here is the past few weeks of progress. I am hoping to be driving soon, but as you all know, everything tends to take 4 times longer then you expect, and these little cars like to fight you along the way.

Started color sanding and buffing the passenger door & quarter, driver's front fender and rear fenders. I can't tell you what a difference color sanding and buffing the clear coat makes! I have never painted a car before (Except my Rustoleum job on my old Baja). Being a novice, you get a lot of orange peal. I am getting better, but it is still very apparent I am not a pro. After I carefully sand and buff the clear, the results are impressive. Only real issue is that it is VERY time consuming!! But the results are definitely worth it...

I installed and wired the front headlights and turn signals, as well as the front bumper and fog lights. For the fog lights, I was going to install them under the over rider, but ultimately decided on above.

I installed the glass in the passenger door. Still hard, but easier then the first one I did.

I finally put the glovebox door on. I over bent the latch, so now it won't open. Rolling Eyes I will have to unbolt from the trunk and fix it.

I then moved on to tuning the engine. I synced the carbs and timed it. It runs pretty good, but I am going to take it to a Weber guru to fine tune. The Weber Windows I bought from Danny at Gab-Fab are awesome! Makes things much easier!

After installing the rear fenders, this is how she sits now (On a jack in the rear at the moment) This week I will install the rear bumper, install the rear gravel guards, tidy up some wiring and othe fine details, then it is off to Koch's for a new windshield and some fine tuning.

Wow, just found your build-STUNNING!

Car looks awesome, you should be proud of what you’ve done

I’m just starting a 66’ build, what did you use for the bedliner in the wheel wells?

It looks great being color matched, did you tint the bedliner before spraying?

Thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you!

I used U-POL Raptor tintable bed liner. Here is the spec sheet:

http://www.raptorcoatings.com/files/3060/up4800-SDS-EN

I then went to the auto paint shop where I bought my paint and bought basecoat toner in the same paint code as my paint. (ask your paint supplier to leave out the binders). This is how it matches the paint color. It dries very hard and protects well. I did the underside of the fenders, as well as the entire trunk. I bought the kit with the sprayer. I got the 4 bottle kit and still have one left.

Oh that’s right, forgot about the UPOL! I used that years ago on the underside of my Model A roadster.

Stuff is super durable, I tinted mine black. It still looks like the day I sprayed it. It’s been on there since 2010

I liked it because the texture is much smoother than the typical bedliner.

Thanks for reminding me, I can see I’ll be using it again years later haha

The bug finally left the garage / driveway for the first time since I brought it home in June 2014. Off to Koch VW in Acton for some buttoning up and to fix some of my rookie mistakes. I had to lift the rear back up to the stock height in order to get it on the trailer. I was going to take the time to index it properly by adjusting the inner and outer splines, but I am just going to let Koch do it. I always thought 1 outer spline equaled about 2.5 inches, but for me it is either ass high or 3 inches off the sump drain bolt. Not drive-able in my opinion. I will also have them raise the front. I am near full adjustment on the beam, so if they cant get it high enough, I may have to swap out my unused drop spindles for stock height spindles and just adjust off the beam. Goal is to have the tires basically in line with the fender line. Other than that, they will replace the windshield, add a dual circuit master cylinder and fine tune the carbs.
