Yeah but might have a buyer for my mk5 tdi instead. So it may stay in my hands a bit longer... _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

4th of July project in progress...:
New syncro shocks and springs: (the taller ones in the pics)
This booger of a bump stop had to go in after the springs went in on both sides...these springs took some creativity to work the spring compressors around the vans boxy rear suspensions stuff...
Working on the fronts now... _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

Found a new battery cable at the junkyard today. Who buys a used cable???!?
I did.
This thing is 3 times as thick as my cable, as flexible as welding wire, and it’s got a VW part number.
And it was $3.
I’d call it a solid win. _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

Are you worried about those tires slowing your van down? I went just 3.3% taller than stock and I can feel a difference. Rolls, tracks and looks better but it's slower.
I like that stout battery cable! _________________ "A rolling bus gathers no rust." |

For SURE these are terrible for the van. Way to tall, very slow, out of balance and pull hard right, and hum at speed.
But at low speed the traction and clearance is fantastic!
It’s getting general grabber at2 tires 27x8.5x14LT. They make the speedo accurate and I love how they drive for the price. Should fill the wheel well plenty.
And I have 6 or 7 of that Michelin LTX in a stock size to play with...old and Dry but all hold air and roll great! _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

I can dig that.
One other nice thing about a taller bus/vanagon is how easy they are to get under to work on. _________________ "A rolling bus gathers no rust." |

Stuart, I'm glad I found this thread (just recently started checking out the vanagon forums) Misty will be missed, but long live Corky! I love the look and dig the use of a used cable (old cable can be better than some of the new stuff). _________________ Brutis Patches Izabich: 1970 VW Transporter - 1776cc DP

It was only jacked up for sleeping level in it. New front springs get here this afternoon around 3, and then it will be a non issue _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

Dang. It sounds like you reassembled the bearings with sand instead of grease. _________________ Brutis Patches Izabich: 1970 VW Transporter - 1776cc DP

That’s sounds dry. You can get another 5000 out of it with just lube I bet... _________________ .ssS! |

Yeah except I never did these. I think driving it backward from Cali did it. These wheels were the ones on the ground. Also found a shot inner tie rod on the left and a little wear on the right. Gonna toss a new inner and out on the driver side, and a new speedo cable (broke when I installed the spring while I was figuring everything out) and call it good.
Lifted the front with moog 5660 springs but not happy with the result so gonna add some spacers and go for 19” rather then the 16.5 I got. Gotta do research and get creative! _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

Nah. Rollers won't care which way they turn as long as they lubed.
They just wore out from years or the grease leached out. _________________ .ssS! |

It got hammered with the bad inner tie rod on that side while rolling backwards for 1500 miles, I think that’s what did it _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

Have some guests staying at the house:
Waxed a side to see what it would come back to...pleasantly surprised it came back nicely! Gonna wash it and finish it later...
Replaced my left front wheel bearing, found it rusty. Determined it was the speedo cable hole causing the leak. Been bad for a while but never heard any noise! Weird.
Put the upper ball joint spacers on I got from Kwilk, gowesty brand. Thanks kim!
Put the alloys back on and swapped the spare out with a matching Michelin LTX on a steel wheel. Stock size 195/75/14.
Now the lift is more noticeable!
