You could look through the classifieds for scrappers who sell parts or maybe members here can sell you all the parts.

The other option is a Small Cars AC unit that replaces factory ac completely. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...mp;start=0

AC is great but unless you & your husband plan to do most of the work yourselves this is likely to be a rather costly undertaking. Even with all the parts in place a reworking of the system (e.g. barrier hoses, parallel flow condenser, etc.) can run $3-4,000.

I happen to have a complete AC set from my 88 Wolfburg tintop that I am selling. I am in Vancouver, BC, though, so might be a bit of a challenge.

Husbands who remove A/C need a severe talking to. It's barbaric.

I have 'everything' out of a 1990 tin top. I am in Maryland so shipping could be fun. PM me if you need the complete set from this barbarian. Cool
