Looking for a pic or explanation of what went in the two holes above the Z bed on the driver side. Between the windows I have two holes. What are they for? A strap like on the closet side, a knob to hang stuff, blank cover, or?
Thanks, can take a pic if needed.

Does anyone have a picture of there's. I have an extra assist strap identical to the one on the closet. Not sure it is correct for that side with two holes.
Thanks.

Were those even on campers there?

I have a westy that has the holes but no strap also. Same deal.

I just assumed it was the "passenger bus" metal stamping they used that retained the holes, even if they weren't going to be used.

Good chance there was nothing there to begin with. That is a standard threaded mounting boss installed on all bus bodies for all versions of the type 2 bus. Funny thing is one of those grab straps is factory mounted to the closet cabinet on the sliding door side of my 71 Westie but not on the other side. There is nothing there like on yours. I don't think any of my past campers had one there either. All though the passenger versions had them as a convenience for passengers scooting around the middle seat while getting into the back seat.

I think they were put in more for people to use while getting in and out of the bus than to hang onto while the bus is in motion. No left side rear door ergo no grab strap for getting in and out with.

Mi Dos centavos.

Early '73's had the assist straps:

From the 1973 brochure also, so it did have them by then (albeit its the Canadian flavor brochure).

There wasn't a clear picture of it on the 68-72 brochures, but I don't have one on a relatively original 1972.

Nice to see an actual brochure of a '73 with the leatherette upholstery.

Can't tell you how many times I'm told that '73's didn't come from factory with leatherette, but fabric, even though I have leatherette AND I have original window sticker stating it had leatherette. Thanks.

Thanks for the input everyone. Does anyone have a close up of the strap used in a 72. If there are straps used in a 72 I want to get the right one. The one I have is identical to the one on the closet. The screw that fits it, is to small in diameter to fit the holes pictured in mine. Maybe there was nothing there but white plugs.
