Dates are set! And holy smokes, we are so happy to say that this is the 5th year for this wonderful community event that continues to grow in every imaginable way. I wouldn't dare try to summarize the Syncro Solstice in one paragraph. If you are considering coming, ask someone you know about their experience, search the threads, and most importantly, put the time aside and come. And for those planning for yet another year, we're gettin' the band back together, man!!!
I will make edits to this Samba entry as information is available, so please look for it and count on continuous updates there as well as on Facebook.
Registration
Registration is open! We do expect to reach capacity, with 70+vans. http://syncrosolstice.com/
Update: We are printing some posters for the event this year. You can buy them on the website registration page, even without registering (or if you previously did.
Location
Lone Mesa Campground, north-west Moab. Have a look: http://goo.gl/maps/ABYFG
Events
Hiking (Limited space for a Fiery Furnace tour, details to follow. You need to do this trip), Mtn Biking, River runs...as the events are solidified, you can find them here, the site (Syncrosolstice.com), Facebook, etc. Many miles of 2wd and Syncro roads to drive, something for everyone!
Caravans
This year, we are building the framework for a Caravan from the Syncrofest event, to the Syncro Solstice.
If there is support, perhaps a caravan to Overland Expo, and caravan coordination from the different corners like southern California, PNW, Southwest and I70/80.

Yeehah! I'm absolutely going to make it to either Solstice or Fest this year depending on which weekend I don't have parental obligations. I've been wanting to do this every year but it's hard to do so close to TBF. _________________ 89 Syncro Westy - GW 2.5, now with a double knob job

We will be there!! No planned van surgeries so it should be a solid GO.
I will try to add another day or 2 to our usual schedule in order to hit some more driving trails and a Fruita stop on the way.
Spectacular Moab - can't wait!

Sweet! I will be there for sure. After all the off road exploring we did last year this is my new favorite event. Who is in for the epic trip from Hollister to Moab? I will be leaving from Portland if any other PNWers want to caravan to SOCAL or continue on to Moab let me know. The more the merrier! No bull horns allowed though. I am getting my tranny cooler together specifically for this trip. _________________ Syncronize it!

I'm in! I'm bringing my brother from Baton Rouge this year in an attempt to convert him to Vanagon worship. _________________ Joe T.

I believe "Syncro Fest" is Syncro de Mayo...name change is a long story from what I have heard. Syncro Solstice is a whole different beast. I want to attend both but not sure I am going to be able to (one or the other is even unlikely for me ). |

Yup, Solstice is totally different. Unfortunately, if we did actually hold it in June, it would be too hot! So mid May has worked out pretty well. Weather has been pretty good, but it can still get hot in the afternoons.
Lots of fun though! I'd like to make it to SyncroFest as well but not enough time off.
I'm working on a couple routes inside Utah for detours along the way to Moab. So many fun roads to drive it's hard to choose! _________________ 1986 Canadian Syncro Westy TDI - 1989 Syncro Single Cab - 2001 Audi S4 - 1981 VW Caddy ABA - 1980 VW Caddy EV - 1973 VW T-181 |

On our way to Telluride from the West coast, We've been going through Heber and taking the pass on 191 (from Duchesne to Price) to avoid taking the stretch of I-15 through Salt Lake which is no fun in a vanagon. I've always wanted to do more exploring in that area. Know anything fun in that area that we might be able to hit on the way in? _________________ 89 Syncro Westy - GW 2.5, now with a double knob job

I did a fun road from essentially Vernal UT (Bonanza, UT) to Fruita CO (Mack, CO). I know there are more roads that put you into the Book Cliff area that will dump you out right near the I-70/191 junction.
There are honestly hundreds of miles of dirt roads along the way. What direction are you coming from? Idaho? How many days do you have to get to Moab _________________ 1986 Canadian Syncro Westy TDI - 1989 Syncro Single Cab - 2001 Audi S4 - 1981 VW Caddy ABA - 1980 VW Caddy EV - 1973 VW T-181 |

We come from Oregon on I-84. Instead of getting on I-15, we stay on 84 to 80 and go through Park City and Heber. On our way to Telluride, we are usually trying to get there as fast as possible and then take a week to get home and do some exploring. I'm not sure how much time I will have if I can make it to Solstice. Maybe an extra day or 2 if I'm lucky. I know I will have to pretty much book straight home afterwards. I would like to explore that area more as we are usually just passing through. _________________ 89 Syncro Westy - GW 2.5, now with a double knob job

I still love going down through the San Rafael on the way. It is much more fun than just grinding miles out on the highway. Lots to see and the roads are 2WD easy and very well maintained.
Let me know your route Hans, and I will try to get with the group this year! _________________ 1987 Syncro Westfalia Hightop - NAHT

Looks like I'm in, and my wife wants to come too. Setting off from the front range so it there is a crew going from this side of the hills, let us know and we can meet up for the drive.
