It's interesting to me how the majority of those who registered have '84 or '85 Vanagons.
Does anybody know the year-by-year Vanagon purchase numbers in the US? I wonder what the highest sales years were, and, assuming this registry gets a lot more data, whether or not it would it fall in line with those numbers.
As far as privacy, I'm not giving up anything that can't already be found online with a little effort. Anonymity is a myth at this point. I only hope that whoever steals mine is good at rust mitigation and doesn't mind a tapping lash adjuster, temperamental wiper switch, broken AC, squeaky suspension, etc.... _________________ Joe T.

Looks like the '84s took the lead and the '87s caught up and passed the '85s. Model year dominance will likely vary quite a bit for the first while until there are more numbers. '80s and '82s seem quite under-represented!
I'm looking for some production numbers but so far only found an article on Sycro 16s on Vanagon.com. Let me know if you find anything! _________________ ---------------------------------------------------

Interestingly, the Cabriolet registry entries, for the most part, are falling in line with production numbers (just a couple of anomalies).
Production numbers for Vanagons, from a Catalog of Imported Car book I have (this is for Vanagons, not total T3 chassis production, and is for the calendar year, not production year):
1980: 28,673
1981: 25,083
1982: 24,203
For the remaining years, only total number of Volkswagens sold in the USA are listed. _________________ ~Kamz

Hey Geo, Unca Joel on the Vanagon List was compiling a Vanagon Registry in the old days.
I haven't been there in years but if he's still at it he might be willing to share? _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

Thanks for that! I'll continue the hunt for other numbers.

Are you a member there? I'm not so maybe it'd be good to have a member bug him? _________________ ---------------------------------------------------

I think Unca Joel has retired from the Vanagon List, or at least he had gone off of it a few years back when I was still on there. It's worth inquiring, though.
All you have to do to become a member is subscribe per the instructions on vanagon.com. The admin will let you know when you're in. _________________ Joe T.

Me neither, but apparently they exist...one in the registry.
Technically they were built 'til 2002 in South Africa. Too bad there's no LHD versions of those kicking around North America! _________________ ---------------------------------------------------

No such animal. They stopped building them ambidextrous when they went to the big window model by getting rid of the area for the slider track on the right side. _________________ ---------------------------------------------------
