Hello, I am new here. I have an opportunity to trade a truck I am selling for a wolfsburg vanagon. It is a 1988 wolfsburg (with the flip table) but it is all wheel drive and it is not a synchro. The owner said it had a 2.4l engine. She will trade the vanagon or a 1961 bug for my 1992 toyota pick-up. I have been searching around for info to determine if it would be a good trade. I have no experience with vanagons. The reason for selling the truck in the first place was to buy something I could camp with, so the whole situation seems ideal unless I spend more time working on the VW than driving it.
Any info would be greatly appreciated, Thanks. |

Asking for this kind of info on the registry thread is not likely to get much response.
I suggest you start your own thread in the forum, with pics, so folks can see what you really have.... not very likely it's an all wheel drive/non syncro. _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

I think most vans have a production date of the year prior to their model year...I see this one is date code A - 1980. My '85 was built in '84... _________________ ---------------------------------------------------

Actually, pretty much all model years start about Sept 1 of the year before. So, 1985 were produced very late august 1984 thru mid August 1985.
WRT the 1980 Westy. Pretty much like mine, but mine is a bit earlier, being 8223. Still 07/79.
If I remember correctly, since they built a complete new line for these, I think they started 1980 production in May or June, 1979. I know of 2 earlier than mine. But I think the one in Iowa did not survive.

Greetings to the group!
New to forums and returning to my VW past.
As younger men my bro and I built a couple of Beetles, most memorable was a Corvair flat 6 in the back of his bug. Then there was the karmann ghia that never quite got finished and, sadly, was sold for far less than it should have been.
But no longer 18 and with more available resources I have once again started down the path of VW happiness.
Here is my 1981 Vanagon that was purchased from a poor soul whose wife said "it's gotta go."
I was happy to help both of them out.
Body is super clean, motor runs far better than the compression test says it should.
The PO told me it has 250,000 K's on it (Canadian Eh) but other than that had no further info for me.
Please, if you have any tidbits of knowledge about this year or model please share the wealth. My plan is to build this into a weekender for the wife and I so feel free to make suggestions too.
Here's what I'm starting with.
Peace

With numbers like that, you might want to start saving for engine rebuild/ replace soon..... _________________ 1990 Feldjäger Syncro AAZ

Hello everyone,
I made a register of VW Vanagon, this classified by the VIN.
There is a digital register, with information such as option codes, and also a photographic register with pictures of the condition of vehicles at a given date.
There are pictures of Vanagon Switzerland, French, Thai, and some others in the world.
Alas, as I speak very bad English, the site is in French.
Moreover, to write this message, I must use an internet translator.
But if some want, he can go see: address: www.type17.info
Bye and enjoy friends !
Fred. |
