Hello,
First time posting here, how exciting — thanks everyone for all the content you wrote until now, it has been so useful to me, and I hope what I'll be posting is going to help other T3 owners.
I've lots of wind coming from the cabin windows (both passenger and driver) though all the seals are new (full kit), and the wind comes I believe from quite of a gap that there is between the window and the rails where the window sits when closed. Did this happen to others? How would you consider to fix it — double sealing it? Or are there cheaper techniques as I've already bought a full kit of seal hoping that it would fix my wind problems?!
Thanks a lot for the infos |

Not sure how visible it is but there’s a gap between the felt seal and the window |

Can’t remember and apparently I don’t have the email anymore 🤕 but it was a full kit, so it should be alright? The other parts fit quite well, is just the vertical rail towards the front..
It’s felted |

Hard to help not knowing what you purchased or from whom.
The quality of new parts varies wildly today.
I installed new window seals from VanCafe on my 86 without issue a few years back.
If it were mine, I'd either reorder from a known quality vendor or I would try shimming one side and see if that helps the fit.
Shim with what?
A long thin plastic would be my first choice.
My first thought for me is the sealing strip from a new pail of premixed drywall spackle.
I encounter them frequently but they aren't something you can purchase. Maybe stop by a new home being built and ask the workers for a couple. They are nothing but annoying trash that lies about and gets tripped over.
Another thought is thin foam caulk backer rod, found at most home centers.
Whatever you try, put it on the inside of the channel so the outside edge still seals against moisture and wind gaps. _________________ Stop Dead Photo Links how to post photos

Dave has a good suggestion. See if you can squish the sides together making a tighter seal. If so, add something to the insides of the channel before you put the seal in place. This may work.
In the future, make sure you buy only from one of the accredited Vanagon parts suppliers. They make good on parts which aren't OK, and that rarely happens.
Google https://www.google.com/search?q=Vanagon+parts+suppnt=gws-wiz Skip past the first generic guys--who pay Google to be on the top, but don't have your best interests at heart--down to Van Cafe. The next 7 guys can be counted on.

Looking at the background in the photos the OP probably used a supplier on a different continent than we are used to.

Buying parts on ebay or Amazon is very often not a good idea, nor is buying from places like CIP1. Empi is a brand to avoid as well. Best to stick with suppliers and brands you can remember the name of because you use them often. |

I am based in Europe, and never would I buy stuff on Amazon or eBay — I buy only from VW T3 specialized websites like Areacamper, Mybusparts, Justkampers, Serial-Kombi..
I'll try and put something behind the seal, though I don't like that much as the seals are trimmed to sit perfectly on the guide — I think they are just too loose, or too thin, hence they do not grip well around the glass but leave space.
I've a lot of wind coming through the doors, and I'm trying to do as much as possible to improve it. |

Serial Kombi and Just Kampers are not known for selling good quality products either...
But how to know without trying?
Your felt channel like you said is prolly not thick enough.
Tell us where you bought it from, so we know to avoid it. _________________ Silicone Steering Boots and 930 Cv boots for sale in the classifieds.

The window sash channel is adjustable, you can loosen the 2 attaching bolts and slide the window forward so that it is more firmly in the front guide.
Also at the back edge of the door there is supposed to be felt guide at the rear which helps push the glass forward and stops it from Rocking fore and aft when going up or down. I think your problem could be easily fixed with a little adjusting.

I think the window is quite inside the guide, but it's the sides of the guide that are too sloppy and "wide". But I'll check what I can improve.
About the back edge of the door with the felt guide — do you have a picture of what you mean? I can't quite understand it, sorry. |

@ALIKA T3: which EU shops do you know that have quality parts? I'm happy to buy the front guide if I find it in EU |

It’s for the body cladding on the front doors. _________________ 1987 Syncro Westfalia Triple knob (bastard)

I would take a piece of masking tape and tape the outside edge of the glass and seal. Drive it and verify that is where the noise is coming from before reinventing the wheel. _________________ ☮️ |
