|

Does anyone remember the " city lights" retrofit kit from, I believe Hella, that fit inside your existing h4 7" headlamp? I remember seeing these for sale in Hot VW 's magazine many years ago. It was a ring that went between the h4 bulb and the light socket. It had a light bulb holder, a single push on wire connection, and was made with three tabs that matched the h4 bulb. They were inexpensive, and a very simple way to add a "parking light" into an existing h4 headlamp.
I am running Hella h4 ' s on my '70 Westfalia, and would like to find a pair of these, so I can add parking lights, without having to get lights with them already installed. The light taps into the existing running lights, so when your parking light are on, they're on. Very cool look! These things seem to have disappeared, as if they never existed. Thanks for any help with this.

I tried to find a picture on the internet of these lights in action. Could not find one. I probably will not be installing these for a little while. Wanted to post someone else's photo. I know a picture is worth a thousand words. The city light kit gives the headlight a euro look/function. European lights typically have an additional light inside the light housing, that puts out a little reflective light, kinda like a '67 and earlier bucket, except the "parking" light is behind the headlight lens. These lights work with the parking light switch on, and when your cruising, around dusk, or pulling up to your favorite outdoor eatery, look pretty cool.... I need to see why my brakes are sticking, first. Peace

Well, now, that's interesting. I wonder if this could explain the extra factory wire that I have that goes to the headlights in my SC. There is an extra gray wire going to each headlight bucket, and I have never been able to figure out what it is for. Is this possibly anything that VW would have installed at the factory? My SC did come with factory fog lights... _________________ John

European delivered bays had a city light in the headlights, they also used bulb and reflector lights opposed to sealed beams. When you pull the headlight switch out to the first click the city lights come on, on those models the signal lights don't light up at all except for signalling a turn (single filament bulbs).

I have the City Lights in my Westy, I have 'em connected to a rocker switch with a LED indicating power on. I wired the switch to a keyed power supply so they can be used anytime. _________________ I Corinthians 4: 1 thru 5
