The pay phones do exist however are few and far between. In mountainous areas the cell service is and can be spotty. In general along main traveled corridors the service is good.
Last year on my Texas trip I did not have any problem like my brother with his lack of service with his provider. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

We have great cellular coverage. I live in a community where almost everyone owns a cell phone. There is a pay phone in front of the supermarket. I have never seen anyone on it. |

There are still laws in some states requiring phone companies to have public pay phones based on population. Most convenience stores and gas stations still have them.

Great if you ever need to make a call and your battery in your cell phone is dead. Very convenient and useful. |

Amish areas have abundant pay phones. The Amish are not allowed to own the technology but they can still use it. One of the towns I lived in had a convenient pull in phone with the phone a little too high for a person standing on the ground but really convenient for someone in a buggy. |

I used a payphone at gas station late last summer. It turned out that my TracFone had become disconnected from its charger in the glove box of my truck, so I stopped to use it, 50 cents.

The outside of most jail and prisons have payphones. When they let them out they can call for a ride. Don't ask me how I know!! _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

most Wal-marts I've seen around here still have one in one of the entrances. Other than that, the only places I've seen them are usually in the ghettos by the liquor stores and outside the bars. |

Interesting, around here those were the very first places they disappeared from because the drug dealers were using them for offices, since the cell phone's come along that's no longer an issue but it's still a real challenge to find one anywhere, they are out there but nowhere near as plentiful as they once were. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Some of the Metro (subway) platforms in DC still have payphones. When I moved here in 2012, I called a friend from one, screamed in the phone saying I was on a payphone, and slammed the phone hanging up. It felt great. I the immediately, text my buddy to saying how cool it was. _________________ 77 Westy - Cape Cod Sage
