I wanted to add a little to the easy to disassemble bit. I would suggest making it quick and easy to remove the entire body. It makes going back to do other work so easy that I don't tend to avoid it over the winter. The wiring should have plugs, the body bolts accessible with welded nuts if/as needed, and body alignment made easy. I even have a bracket welded to the frame so I cannot hit the master cylinder reservoir with the body when setting it back down.

I can pop out the seats (mini t) and unplug the wiring to the dash, unplug the wiring at the front and unbolt the steering coupler, unplug the wiring at the back, then remove the body to chassis bolts and with one helper lift off the body.

Now I don't mind doing winter upgrades. I wouldn't even bleed the brakes without pulling the body now.

Hey Jeff, I appreciate the text you sent to let me know about the Manx project. We've only talked a little bit about it, and you know most of history on my buggy now; so I'll share a comment given to me by Bill L. during the 3rd restoration on my buggy that we completed in 2014..."at what point do you want people to see where the 'want to' ended?"...so, from my experience (and apparently sharing the same genetic trait to go all in) I'd take all the time you need to do it the way you want it and do it right. Short-cutting to get on the road led me to repeat body off twice now...I'm so glad we took our sweet time on this last round!

I shared with guys in the area last night & today, about your project, and we're ready to support ya! We're only 45 minutes away...call when you're ready.

Well it's official, I paid my deposit on #160
The plan is to fly on April 15 to visit friends, load up and drive back.
I've always wanted to drive across the country and it's also on my mother-in-laws bucket list so she is going to join me on this journey back. She's very cool and will only make the trip better.

Progress: started pulling the front beam to get it ready for adjusters. I will spend my Saturday stripping it down completely.

I'm going to be doing the bulk of my updates on the Manx Club but will be updating this one as much as I can as well.

So what color did you order?

Since it's going to take a few years to build make sure you buy the parts YOU WANT. you don't want to say down the road " always wished I had gotten the Speedhut gauges"

Also when you pick it up, save time in your schedule to visit Brad..

What kind of paint are you going to use on the front beam and everything under the body?

Also, 2 of those engine stands make a great rotisserie for the pan.

Typically around major holidays Speedhut goes on sale. I got mine at thanksgiving last year. Summit has better pricing on the Flaming River Columns and I got the Momo steering wheel through Amazon.

A note of caution on powder coating beams. I old, or used beam is hard to PC. During the PC process, after the paint "dust" is applied, it goes into a oven to cook. The cooking process will melt/burn/bubble any old grease left on a part. If any grease or oil is left inside the shock towers where they are pinch welded, it will boil out and marr the finish, up to leave bubbles in the finish. To fix that, the finish has to be removed, completely, and re-done.

The inner and outer bearings/bushings should be removed, and the beam thoroughly cleaned to remove any sing of grease. It is exceptionally hard to remove the bearings/bushing without damaging them, so plan on new bearings/bushings.

I would recommend a high quality catalyzed chassis black and paint it. The chassis black I have used before has stood up very well to the elements and road rash.

so...my beam is slightly bent Crying or Very sad

I'm slightly annoyed today. Looks like I'm on the hunt for something new...er If you guys see something with adjusters already installed let me know. Maybe its something I have missed.

On the plus side, my drop spindles came in and were returned with the news of the bent beam.

Ordered an Airkewld Ultimate Adjustable beam and will run the stock spindles.

That is what I thought it was.

Last year following France's Kickout all over the US, that Gun Metal looks wild in the sun. Looks like it is fluid in motion. Great color choice!

That color not only looks good in the sun, but at night you only see the silver flake. Looks like a million stars in a black sky. There is nothing else like it. Tom
