I'm excited to see that Tom, the main reason I went with this color is that its something different for a Manxter. I asked Winnie how many she thought there were and she said less than a handful that she could recall. I originally wanted Canadian Blue, but felt like that has only been done 1848383 times LOL _________________

I still cant believe how everything has lined up and fallen into place.
I fly out of Columbia, SC Wednesday night April 15 after work arriving in CA at 11:20pm.
Thursday April 16 I'm having lunch with the Meyers crew and will start the delivery process when we get back.
Friday will be spent seeing some of California and enjoying West Coast Mexican food. No real plan.
Saturday will be a birthday party for my buddies kid and picking up my Mother in Law from the airport for the ride back. It's on her Bucket List and she's actually really cool.
Sunday we will head for home...hopefully with another stop along the way.
I'm Hoping Jim can meet us for lunch and that beer! _________________

Jim....I'm literally going to be driving by when/if this whole engine thing works out. Fear not, that beer may still happen as long as Sundays not a problem.
BTW- I 99% sure this engine deal is working out. Built Subaru 2.5 turbo/intercooled with a Stinger ECU tuned down to run on 91 pump. On 110 it was a 480hp motor. Should be a much calmer 325-350 to the wheels through the Subarugears Transmission...hence the bigbrake package and my excitement with the fuel cell. _________________

What a bucket list....
Fly across the country, pick up a beautiful new Manxter, stuff it into a trailer, have lunch with Bruce and Winnie, touching peoples lives, picking up parts along the way, drive it back across the US, with the Mother-in-law riding shotgun.. _________________ dbsmith

My Coast to Coast Adventure has finally come to its conclusion. Like David said, I flew out Wednesday evening, took delivery Thursday morning with the help of friends new and old! We all went out to lunch where I had to have a drink calming my nerves in case the buggy didn’t fit in the trailer. YES, it was THAT close LOL. Luckily, it did drop into place like it was meant to be. However my credit card company (gotta love points) wasn’t feeling it and declined my transaction for fear of fraud… Yep, panic mode about set in on that one too, but nothing an hour on the phone answering security questions wouldn’t handle. I’m glad they were looking out for me, just not quite so much at that point
Anyway, enough yappin and on with the show!
The Newest Manxter 2+2 #160 with the Oldest Manx….Old Red!
Time for some California Sun!
To give an idea of how the flake dances…
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj31/3DollaBill...ahef7t.mp4
When I say close, I mean tighter than OJ’s glove!
Once the body was in and we knew it would fit, it was on like Donkey Kong!
Then with all the extra space, we loaded up a few things for my buddy Vinnie which he wanted back on the East Coast in a more trusted manor than the US Army movers would supply.
Buttoned up and hit the road headed for Home with Some Amazing stops along the way!
Dead Horse Point State Park, Utah! It commanded a moment of reflection.
VW Slug Bug Ranch, Texas!
Finally Home and opening the trailer to make sure everything was in good order. Looks like we picked up a stow away along the way
Let’s free up some room and get that shelf out of the way!
Better, now we have room to maneuver.
Stow away comes out first. AWW YEAH!
Start unloading…
Into the yard for the moment…
Now we need something to set this body on, oh wait, I’ve got just the thing!
MORE COW BELL!!! But it’s still missing something…
This picks up some many surrounding colors
A truer representation of the color..
I need to do A LOT of organizing, cleaning of the garage and polishing of wheels. I'm going to spend the majority of the next year turning tricks to pay for the transmission so this build can really get underway.
Time for a yard sale! _________________

WOW! Looks Great! Can't wait to watch your build! I am in the early stages of planning mine now, so you'll probably hear a lot from me! LOL I hope to get #174 as my wife was born in 74. So I have a little while to save some money before I have to bite the proverbial bullet! I pick up my 74 chassis and floor pans in another 2 weeks and will start my own build thread.
One quick question, when you got the Airkewld Ultimate Adjustable beam, did you go with the stock width or a narrowed width? |

Thanks man! Looking Forward to your build. You may have to put in weekly calls to get #174, but I like the idea behind it!
Stock width beam and it will take every bit of 4-6 weeks. I have to mail my front brake parts back as I have the Link Pin setup somehow (color me surprised) and they are going to swap them out for me. I'm looking forward to their work _________________

Cool! I have a beam from a 74 Ghia now that is being refurbished. It's ball joint of course, with disc brakes. And I was told all I need is 2.5" drop spindles and it would be fine, don't need the adjustable beam? But I'm keeping my options open. Where'd you get the Subi engine? I did buy my first part the other day, a Hurst shifter! LOL |

The adjustable beam will allow you to fine tune your ride height. 2.5 is going to get you 2.5 so it does keep things simple. The Ultimate Beam is supposed to offer 7 inches of adjustability, realistically I only need around 3.
Subaru Engine was built by Metric Motors in Utah. They seem like good people and it's kind of a leap of faith being half a country away, but I feel really good about the deal. If you decide you want an adjustable beam I have an amazingly clean one in primer that can with my David Barrett Chassis that I wont be using. If I had gotten this a few months earlier, I wouldn't have gotten the Airkewld Ultimate Beam. _________________

Where did you buy the gas tank? Is it already set up for FI? Also if you don't mind what was the price of the tank? |

I bought it from Brad who was producing them at one time. This was actually the last one he had hiding under his desk which was going in his personal project. That is until he decided it was best for a rear mount fuel cell for a race buggy...or something like that. I bought it already setup for FI. I will have to upgrade the fuel pump to something with a little more flow though. I will love it, rub it and polish it up at some point to reveal just how beautiful the quality of work is.
I feel like I won the lottery in getting it, 15gl capacity and already set up for EFI, that's a total win win for me! _________________

Remember this pic? Funny thing about this pic....the front rotors are for Link Pin Suspension which are not even a little bit compatible with what I'm doing...well I guess they would bolt to the wheel, but not the car LOL. Anyway, a HUGE shout out to Pete at Airkewld for getting me squared away. I called him up, explained that things weren't matching up and he took great care of me. I can’t say enough good things about that group! So I'm about 2 weeks away from the front end being on the ground under its own support.
Progress: While waiting on new ball joints to arrive, I decided it was time for some love on the front suspension. I've had the Airkewld Ultimate Beam for a little bit now and the drop spindles just came in, so it is time to pretty some things up. I was going to have everything (control arms, drop spindles, steering arm, caliper mount plates) powder coated until they said it would cost around $250. I promptly headed to the LPS (Local Parts Store) and picked up some paint/clear, headed to my good friend Dale's house and we went to town! Now I don't have any before pictures but if you look at the old beam, it was that crusty, old multilayered black. I wanted something a little different and this is what they had. Should add a little contrast without screaming look at me like I want the brake package too.
So here's the Airkewld Ultimate Beam...soupa sexy
and here is all the work we did for the attaching parts. Subtle change that won’t be seen too much. It was the best option for what they had on the shelf. Should look better when it’s all assembled.
As mentioned I'm still few weeks out, but I can see front wheels on the ground in the near future. _________________
