I think I'm correct in saying that originally, 55-59 buses had the single exit from the muffler on the left side of the bus (looking from the rear) with a two piece, angled tail pipe attached.
All the single outlet 36hp tailpipes I see for sale (NOS, repro etc) are the generic early 25/36hp type used on Barndoors and early Beetles with the single exit on the right hand side.
Are these 'left exit' mufflers available anywhere or are people just using a 'generic' right exit muffler with the stubby tail pipe?

36 hp buses had the exhaust tip on the right hand side, not on the left. The left side started with the bastard 40hp I believe
