Hi again everybody here on the site, hope everyone is doing well. I've been busy attempting to get my '68 tin top camper rolling again. It's taken me six months now, but it should very soon, since the motor is about to come out of the shop after and complete and thorough overhaul. To get down to business, I've been replacing everything on the brake system, down to the smallest screw, but the last bit here is giving me some trouble. Upon buying a new master cylinder, I checked about the brake light switches for it, of which I bought two kinds, because they weren't very expensive, and I had no idea which to use. Both the two prong and three prong are listed on various websites for vintage veedub parts as being 1968-1970, but I'm not sure if the three prong or only for a 68-'70 bus if you've replace your drum brake system with discs, and since I have not, I opted, of course, for the non-servo master cylinder when I bought one, since I believe the first disc brake bays came about in '73. I also had a good at the old master on my own bus and noticed something very strange(strange to me anyway)...on the left side of the cylinder when its installed beneath the bus and the brake light switches are facing the left side of the bus, there are three dual prong switches, which I had never seen. I haven't had much luck figuring it out, and since the master I bought only has two holes for two switches, it makes it even stranger. Hopefully you guys out there can shed some light on the matter, for which I'd be very grateful. I'd also like to know where I can get a couple of the rubber gaskets that seal the plastic reservoir that goes on the master cylinder itself, and more importantly, what their called technically. Again, thanks so much to everyone here on the site with your help and support. |

Every time someone asks about early bay MC switch setups, I discover a different style that's available. Essentially, if you have a brake warning light (B) in your dash, you'll need three two-prong switches (of which there are two styles at the same time) or two three prong switches to make it work. If you do not have a (B) light, you can use two prong switches or three prong switches. Your MC holes will determine this. If you do not have the light, you can just use whichever switch fits the plugs on your bus.
How many switch holes does your new MC have?

If they say Euromax, return them and get the German kind. They're $15 each instead of $2. How much are your brakes worth now? How much will they be worth at 65mph?

I call them rubber bungs but Busdepot calls them grommets

You might also want to order a couple of these. They act to seal the hard plastic lines that go between the upper and lower reservoirs.

All your questions can be answered by referring to the Bentley service manual for your vehicle. I find it rather shocking
that anyone would attempt such mechanical work as you have without one, and especially on such a safety-relevant area
as the braking system.
If you look at the Community menu in the header for this website, and click the Businesses item, you will find an extensive
list of VW parts vendors, and more. _________________ '67 bug: seized by the authorities
